Dressed To Kill (1980): Rewatched this Hitchcock meets Giallo thriller by Brian De Palma. The scene in the museum all the way up to the murder is awesome, no dialogue and tons of visual things going on. 8+/10

The Blue Lamp is another one I'm still trying to track down. Where did you see it?

Last Exit To Brooklyn (1989) Entertaining up to a point, something is off, I don't think at that time the characters would have been so accepting of gays as depicted and then that is handled unevenly, if you have seen it you'll know what I'm referring to. 7/10

It was released on blu-ray by Studiocanal in the UK not too long ago. Region B tho I'm afraid.

The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

Some random films I've watched lately:

The Greasy Strangler (2016) - 7/10
Sick. Not for everyone, but mostly worked for me. They have a problem ending the movie, though.

Sunday in Peking (Dimanche à Pekin, 1956) - 8/10
Chris Marker short. English voice over made it the most pleasurable Marker experience for me since La jetée – usually his overwhelming narrations are too much to handle in subtitled for (which is a pity).

Scarlet Street (1945) - 7.5/10
I had some trouble believing the plot and a significant number of the scenes are pretty mediocre, but a good bunch of great ideas and scenes make this an enjoyable film. I couldn't help thinking about the rumour of Lang having murdered his wife...

La vie de Jésus (1997) - 5/10
Bruno Dumont's rather tedious attempt at making a Bresson.

Throne of Blood (Kumonosu-jô, 1957) - 9/10
One of the good Kurosawas for me (others being Rashomon, High and Low, Seven Samurai and Stray Dog – I'm not a fan of Yojimbo or Hidden Fortress). I haven't read Macbeth.

A Kelly Reichardt marathon, best to least:
Certain Women (2016) - 8/10
Night Moves (2013) - 8/10
Meek's Cutoff - 8/10 Actually I can't decide between Meek's and Night Moves...
Wendy and Lucy (2008) - 7/10

Well, it would appear that she's gotten better all the time. Can't wait for her next film.

Hello guys!

Yeah, my time spent on SLWB has decreased significantly, and especially the number of posts I make. I drop in here every now and then to read stuff, though.

Someone Behind The Door (1971): Neurosurgeon Anthony Perkins imprints amnesiac Charles Bronson with false memories and a false identity, in the hope of getting Charles to take care of his cheating wife and her lover. Slow but decent psychological thriller with good performances from Perkins and Bronson. 6/10

Jamaica Inn (1939). A fun movie, received a fabulous restoration from the BFI. Charles Laughton hams it up, but damn, he's entertaining.

Finally got around to watching this one (also the BFI restoration, indeed fabulous looking). Laughton sure does ham it up, he's hilarious at times (Chadwick!), but as fascinating as he is to watch here, I wish there had been far less of him and far more of O'Hara and Newton who are great and make for a nice romantic Hitchcockian pairing (even if it never really goes that far, they fit the mold tho)... Decent overall but not a Hitchcock I will revisit any time soon I'm afraid. 6/10

I had a bit of a problem with Robert Newton who to me is not really romantic leading man material. But he was adequate.

Roses Are Red (1947): Don Castle is an ambitious D.A. who is kidnapped and replaced by a lookalike actor, also Castle, by mobster Edward Keane, who has not only a local police leuitenant working for him, but also Charles McGraw and Jeff Chandler. Low on the noir visuals and strictly B territory, but entertaining enough to waste an hour or so on. 6+/10

Roses Are Red is a nice little B. And if you want to see Don Castle in a good film that drips with noir atmosphere, try THE GUILTY (1947). Watching B movies is a roll of the dice as there are more bad ones that good ones. In the later category are 3 Republic goodies, The Tiger Woman (1945), Port of Forty Thieves (1944), and The Mysterious Mr. Valentine (1946).
