Carlos (2010) - 10/10. I had forgotten how good this is. "Someone has taken you/ Someone is taking me."

I have to try again. I haven't seen it since the theatrical relase (and I only saw part 1).

Moonlight (2016)  Gonna start watching some more recent movies, particularly award winners.  Started with this one to see what it was about.  It was pretty good.  Pretty good acting in this one.  Very different, but it was pretty good. I rate it a 8 out of 10...

Girl Gang (1954): No-budget exploitation movie, that is surprisingly graphic in its depiction/explanation of how to shoot up heroin. Other than that, it's mostly a snooze fest. Not so bad it's good, but still pretty damn bad. 4/10

The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes (1970): Holmes (Robert Stephens) and Watson (Colin Blakely) are asked by Genevieve Page to find her husband, after which Holmes' brother Mycroft (Vincent Price) orders them to stop the investigation. Why oh why?! Entertaining and witty take on Holmes by Billy Wilder. 8/10

Black Panther (2018).   This lived BEYOND the hype its been getting.  Everything about the film is original and spectacular.   Heck, i would put it in a early running for best picture of the year... A masterpiece, 10 out of 10...

3 Whatevers Outside of Whereever - Martin Whoever

Very entertaining stuff with a good mix of drama and humour, and lots of differentiated characters. 8/10

More a screenplay film than a director's film btw

L'amant double - Francois Ozon

A tricky thriller by one of the most interesting modern directors. 8/10

It does.

You underrate Ozon of course, because he is a Frenchy. But he's a good one. Always a challenge, mostly a pleasure.

Btw watch films by Robert Hossein, a criminally under-appreciated director. His Spagie Une corde, une colt is fantastic, better than some from the Sergio, or at least equally stylish.

Young Ozon  was interesting, sharp and ambitious. Nowadays he has a way more relaxed approach to filmmaking, he became a bourgeois, making a living of the aura his early work earned him. He still has creativity but he doesn't have the willingness to go all the way and actually try hard. I have seen him at a screening of Angel a decade ago (and very quickly talked with him): the encounter confirmed what I thought. His interviews also tend to show there isn't much else going on in his films that what can be seen at first glance. He's far from being a moron though.

He's been on my to watch list for some time, thanks for the reminder ;)

Une corde, une colt has a nice Spanish guitar score too.

Black Panther (2018) - 2/10. Insufferable. Worst superhero film ever? Certainly a contender (even the Stan Lee cameo is the worst ever).

He hasn't directed that much - more known as an actor of course.

The four I've seen that he directed ("Toi, le venin", "Les salauds vont en enfer", "Le goût de la violence" and of course "Cemetery without Crosses") are all really great. As a director, he was and still is ridiculously underrated.
