Death Walks At Midnight aka La Morte Accarezza A Mezzanotte (1972): Nieves Navarro (aka Susan Scott) witnesses a brutal murder while doing a drugs experiment. But nobody believes her, also because the description she gives is of a murder that took place 6 months earlier. So she decides to investigate things herself. The machismo of the men is a bit too much at times but Navarro is excellent. 7+/10

The Godfather - 8/10
Still great, aging a bit. The weakest part of it, just like in Part II, is the link between scenes.

The Godfather Part II - 8/10
I liked it better that the 10 last times I saw it. It indisputably features most of the most powerful scenes of the trilogy, especially in the second half. Frankie Pentangeli's final discussion with Hagen is one masterful extended shot, incredibly performed by the two actors. It's still way too long and I stand by my opinion: there should be two movies here, one with Vito's rise to power and one focused on Michael. Interlacing the two fully distinct stories only serves a couple of transitions, which isn't the way you build a film, let alone a 212 minutes ones. The final flashback with all the reunited family does more than all the Vito storyline to build a parallel between the two men.

Barton Fink - 8/10
Hey, Dave Jenkins was right on this one. It's much better than I remembered.

Definitely not.

The runtime is 212 min?

Yes it is. We're definitely approaching OUATIA territory here.

Both Google and Netflix say 212, and iTunes (which is where I saw the movie) states 210 but the file is actually 212 min long (it features an extended credits sequence to name all the restoration team which may explain the 2min difference).

Then it must be an extended version, not the official one. There are a few more scenes on the TV version.

IMDB says: "Runtime: 202 min | 220 min (The Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980 VHS Special Edition)"

Irma Vep (1996) - 8/10. Some of the gags go on a bit too long (the one with the French film journalist, for example), but the final one had me (again) laughing and laughing. This is the way you do a film industry film--not as with Clouds of Sils Maria (which takes itself way too seriously). Irma Vep has been restored and the new blu from UK's Arrow looks marvelous: lots and lots of perfectly distributed grain. Yum!

Diplomatic Courier (1952): Diplomatic courier Tyrone Power has to step outside his comfort zone when his latest contact person is murdered, and various parties are after some documents he was carrying. Fast-paced spy thriller, with a 'everybody is a suspect' feel (but no real surprises in the end). Nice cinematography of 50s Europe by Lucien Ballard ('The Killing'). 7/10

Black Panther - 1/5

What a boring movie. I never knew that battles to the death ultimately don't exist as long as the cliff you are pushed off is at least 50 stories and not a single foot higher.

I cannot join because I saw Thor: Ragnarok (4/5) and had a great time. Watching something that knew what it was and didn't exceed to try and do anything but be what it was meant to be which is entertaining. Also, the use of Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song' made me enjoy it all the much more.

I agree that we have to make distinctions between "good" Marvel movies and bad ones. I very much liked Ant-Man and Deadpool and the first two Iron Man films. Hated just about everything else.
