1. I think Bronson was warning Gauche that the Japanese guy was about to get him. Bronson needed  Gauche alive to get the money.

To simply warn Gauche he didn't have to shout "Kill him": that means he wanted Mifune dead. Which doesn't rhyme with the relationship the two developed before and after that event.

There's a widescreen Blu-ray of this from Japan available. I bought a copy and the aspect ratio looks right, and I didn't notice any stretching. The film hasn't been restored, though, so the colors are a bit washed out. Still, it looks pretty good.

Hmmm, I hope this looks better than the J-disc. No note on a restoration or a new scan or anything . . .

A western that had a good premise and started well but was let down by a bad tone and slow,  boring plot.  Didn't like Bronson's character.  3 out of 10...

I really wanted to love this movie but it just doesn't deliver on its premise nor does the movie build upon the fantastic opening sequence. It's a bit sluggishly paced, but ultimately entertaining, but probably not a movie to ever revisit. The deserted bombed out town location is a nice metaphor for this movie in that it has so much promise but nothing really happens and said promise is wasted. C

Yes, underwhelming film which should be much better. 4/10
