Rub me the wrong way, and I'll go off in your face

I put off watching this for many years because I was under the impression that the main emphasis was the sado-masechism, which is a subject I don't care for. Turned out that wasn't the case at all. The story focuses more on the Rubix cube that, when toyed with, opens portals to Hell or other worlds...

Not sure why Pinhead became such a fan favorite, he was the least interesting cenobite of the quartet. The female cenobite was much more frightening.
The overall story seemed to fit a half hour show but they kept it moving for 90 minutes and it worked. Major kudos for that, although I could have done without the montage of the wife luring men into the attic so her dead lover can eat them.
Just seemed rushed.

Where is this supposed to be set? Looks like they filmed it somewhere in the UK but only a handful of the cast is British and somebody mentions "moving down from Seattle"?

8/10

This was reasonably entertaining but slightly disappointing, but I have to say that I had pretty high expectations for some reason (probably because of the über-cool name). It made me more impressed than scared, but this was maybe two-three years ago; I can't say what my take would be now.

PS. Don't bother with the sequels. I've watched parts 1-3 and another part's been in my shelf for like two years and I never even opened the packaging.

PPS. Sorry, I can't answer your question about the setting, I can't remember that clear.

At the time when  there was virtually nothing of quality coming out of the horror genre (not much since really either) this is an excellent film, defintely memorable and quite disturbing in places.

Haven't seen the 2nd sequel but the first one  is a let down.

I did see one direct to video sequel playing on the scifi channel at one time.
It was called Hellraiser: Inferno. It wasn't bad, sort of a horror take on Chinatown.
