When the westerns didn't have the budget to fly the cast and crew to Almeria to shoot a desert scene they would shoot in the sand pit located outside Rome's airport (According to Tony Anthony).

Tony Anthony A Stranger in Town

Gianni Garko If You Meet Sartana, Pray For Your Death

Klaus Kinski And God Said To Cain

Tomas Milian Django Kill, If You Live... Shoot!

William Berger Sartana In The Valley Of Death

Klaus Kinski Shoot The Living, Pray For The Dead

Some of these pics don't show off the landscape but I'll try to look for others that do.

I told you guys they looked like gravel pitters, and the same thing could be done anywhere here in US where there is a big gravel pit.  Afro

Nice pics, I suppose in FL you don't get very deep gravel pits without hitting water.

That's what I thought, when you see a big one where they can go pretty deep you get some nice escarpments that look like buttes.

I just shot something in the same set several months ago (haven't edited yet) and am starting to shoot something else there.
The set looks drastically different now and better I think.
It has a small body of water running through it now.

This is mighty interesting, FC! Afro

But, are you sure this is the exact same SP in all those movies, or are you just guessing?

I have no true idea (except for THE STRANGER clips) but I know all that terrain is in Italy, outside Rome.
The sandy area with the moss growing around it is near a dump apparently.

Makes you think what one could do with only a little inspiration and an abandoned quarry. Wonders.
