http://ifcfilms.com/viewFilm.htm?filmId=1236

Directed by Steven Soderbergh
Starring Benicio Del Toro as Ernesto "Che" Guevara

This releases December 12th in it's full form of 257 minutes in LA and NY for a week, so as to qualify for the Academy Awards consideration. My friend and I will be trying to go and see it. Afterwords, January 9th it releases in two parts (The Argentine and Guerilla).

Have any of you commie bastards heard anything about this? I went to IMDB but it was just a bunch of people fighting over Che as a person, rather than Che as a film. Roger Ebert listed it as one of his Top 20 movies for 2008. That's all I know.

No interest.
The casting of Del Toro is half brilliant and half hit yourself over the head obvious.

I would be extremely surprised if this gets released anywhere near me. I have very little interest in watching this movie, maybe when it comes out on video. If this is going to be another "let's celebrate Commie mass murderers" film I can't say I would care much about it.

That's what always worries me about these types of movies. I'm not interested in seeing Che as a romantic figure--I'm interested in seeing him as who he truly was.

 Afro

This will undoubtably be Che's life seen through rose colored glasses.

You're probably right. I'll still check it out. I mean, I like that the trailer has him speaking at the UN (I believe) admitting to executions and what not. Hopefully they have some more of that.

well if Ebert, the man who shat himself with anger over the romanticization of EVITA, can like this then it may be likely that it isn't one of those 'pinko' orgasms.

We can hope, but most movies dealing with Che tend to depict him as a saintly figure - remember that dross The Motorcycle Diaries? And let's not even mention the thing where Omar Sharif played him... Undecided

If Che gets romanticized movies where he's a superhero, we need Reynard Heydrich and Joseph Goebells movies pronto.

Heydrich and Goebells hero flicks... I think you might be on to something...

I didn't see The Motorcycle Diaries. Was it really bad?

Side note: Ebert didn't like Motorcycle Diaries either--so maybe this one is a bit different?

My fave picture of him.

It fucking ruled.

It's coming to Finland 6 March 2009 but I guess my chances to see it are limited. I'm not even sure if I want to see it. Nor am I sure in which form they are releasing it here.

You're referring to Che here, correct?

Anyways, I bought my tickets today. Call it a birthday present from my mom's credit card! The theater it's showing at let me choose my seats online! I've never done that before.

Here's a clip from the movie that got released: http://www.traileraddict.com/clip/che/stay-here
