"Nah, you don't know how to play"

« : January 15, 2004, 12:12:04 AM »

Hi all! I've seen OUTITW quite a few times, although none very recently, and one question keeps nagging at me. I've looked around and really have not found an answer for my question so I put it up for grabs here!  ;D
The line "Reemember my friend, if you are going to play the false notes you had better play them reely false!" confuses me. I don't really get what is meant by this. Does anyone know?? Is it just sarcasm meant to agrivate him??

I think it's merely the fact Cheyenne thinks he's definitely not a person to cross, especially if your just some stranger with a harmonica...

Does that line even occur in the movie?

If my memory serves me right, Cheyenne says something like "Yeah, play that harmonica. Play so you can't bullshit. But watch out for those false notes."

It's said as a warning to Harmonica meaning "Don't mess with me".

You're right according to my memory JFM - the line is  like you say it is.

Or is it rather: "Yeah, play that bullshit.. But note those false watches... Note them so you can't play..."!! And in that case, is it meant to make Harmonica confused??

One revolution is more than enough for me.

Hi to all,
Yeah, I recall it being more like JFM has it.
I've always thought it was like Cheyenne trying to dig a little at Harmonica.  When Harmonica responds with the false scale, Cheyenne realizes that something is real different about that man.  He doesn't back down, he's not scared of him or his men, and he is wounded. All this serves as info. to let Cheyenned know that Harmonica is a force to be reckoned with, but of no concern to him right now.
