http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0193560/

The movie is based on the book by George Durham Taming of the Nueces Strip: The Story of McNelly's Rangers. The Texas Rangers originated in the 1820s nut they were later disbanded. Durham was one of the first Texas Rangers after they were regrouped by Governor Richard Coke in 1874. I have not read Durham's book, but the movie does not appear to be historically accurate.

Texas Rangers is, in my opinion, not the greatest western around, but I think it is not as bad as some critics in rottentomatoes and IMDB have stated. I found it very watchable, and I would give it a 6 out of 10.

As I said repeatedly, I buy all westerns I can lay my hands on. I bought this without an inkling as what it could have been, I thought it was some kind of juvenile, made for tv flick. Apparenlty, the first half an hour, that's wjat it was, but then it gets nasty and acquires solidity. A pity then that the photography sucks: most of the action scenes are imbued in darkness and you never know ehat is happening on the screen. When they're not, like in the Palo Alto sequence, you never know who is killing who except when is a sombrero wearing mexican. Still I give it 7\10 for the screenplay (John Milius? He is mentioned in the featurette but not in the credits).

Looks like a mid 90's HBO movie.
Not that that's a bad thing.
