Taken (2008) - 4/10. The usual crap. Shaky-cam and fast cutting rob us of the vicarious thrills the action scenes are meant to provide. It's like watching porn with all the sex edited out.

That's what you get, Drink, for not appreciating the genius of When You Read This Letter.

Thanks for the review, I'll watch porn instead.

Thanks Jinkies. I wasn't going to bother anyway - maybe on DVD or Pay-Per-View over the summer - but you pretty much confirmed my suspicions.

Effective kidnap movie. Saw it with a large audience and everybody seemed taken by it (no pun intended), the audience gasped at all the right moments and there was a general feeling that Liam Neeson really should punish those who did him wrong.

The car chases and fist fights could have been done a lot better because we get the usual shaky cam technique but the story was involving enough for me not to care too much.
The movie briefly flirts with the subject about our Governments allowing female trafficking and even being in on the take. Good to see this kind of mainstream stuff wanting to touch on those real life subjects rather than going the PC route and giving us the old "black and white" scenario.

7/10

A shame Neeson's wife dies just as he was experiencing main stream success again.

Seriously. Pretty big bummer for the dude, I'm sure. He's gonna be playing Lincoln soon though...

Hm, like I said elsewhere - I'm always skeptic when about a movie Luc Besson wrote but didn't direct, but I'll give this a try today.

Saw this a few weeks ago, didn't think much of it. Like way too many action films these days, it's structured like a video game, with Neeson taking on a new set of bad guys in a new locale every ten minutes, and going from semi-plausible to ludicrously overwrought in the last half hour. It's fun for awhile to watch Neeson kick the holy crap out of bad guys, but it gets tiresome before too long. Neeson either isn't a very good actor or he had a bad part to work with, because he did little more than look sad or pissed throughout the whole film. 6/10 for a one-time viewing, doubt I'd care for a rewatch.

PS: Although I'll always have Neeson growling "THIS IS NO TIME FOR DICK-MEASURING, STEWART!" etched in my memory bank. :D

Watched it: not a bad thriller-actioner, I was entertained.

6.75/10

P.S. Apparently there's a sequel coming soon.
