The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

My first thought was: "What the fuck?" I guess it's a compliment when speaking about a Spike Jonze movie. Though, I just read that the studio has interfered strongly with the editing...

I heard those were never confirmed and could have been potentially been rumors. http://www.joblow.com/spike-gets-final-cut

Looks very good! I just hope he really did what he said he was going to do: not making it to childish.... because there was supposed to be some very frightening moments, and what you see in the trailer when they talk about "fear" is more like disneyland than dark real fear...

To me it looks utter shite. The fact that they've filmed it on Earth means they either don't get or don't respect the original vision. Sendak is an illustrator first, a writer second. Where in this POS trailer are his images?

I don't know the book (not as famous in France as in other countries), but as far as I know Spike Jonze made so far a good movie and an almost-masterpiece, which is why i seriously doubt this will be utter shit. But who knows!

Never heard of the book before. Funny how there have been like half a dozen movies in the past couple of years that claim to be "from one of the most beloved books of all time" or something like that. Most of them have been fantasy turds like Narnia or Eragon...

The book is just a kid's picture book, about a boy and these imaginary beings. There's about 5 minutes of material there for a movie, so they've manufactured a whole new story out of the very basic premise. What makes the book special are the illustrations. Without those, the whole work just becomes a generic After-School Special.

Since Spike Jonze has been talking about making a movie about it for years now, I guess he found something in it that you didn't :D
I have the feeling this is a very personal project by Spike, he seems very genuine when he talks about it...
Needless to say:
1) i could be wrong
2) he could fail
3) a personal project can still betray the original work...
4) point 4) is not (always) a bad thing (Once Upon A Time In America...)

The example of Adaptation is a good one: the book had NO material for a movie. He still managed to do a great movie about it. One could argue that this is only due to his scriptwriter... may be, may be not.
Anyway, Spike is not Chris Columbus... like any great filmmaker, he can fail, but he I don't think this could end up being utter shit.

That's the whole point. 6 months ago, it was not supposed to be a kiddie flick at all...

I don't know.
I remember reading this in 2nd grade and not being as impressed by it as I was by Green Eggs And Ham.
Would I go see a feature length Green Eggs And Ham movie? Most certainly not, so I can't begin to fathom the fascination here.

Why so bitter

Not bitter, just confused about the subject.
Don't meenz no harmz.

and where have you been lately?

Been kinda busy with school and shit.

Then what is it now?

Who knows? It's a Spike Jonze movie, so even the few guys who have seen it by now are not very likely to know either.
