Great documentary by Werner Herzog, about Timothy Treadwell; an American activist that spent more than 10 years (13, was it?) living (only during the summer months, though) in the Alaskan wilderness with his girlfriend Amie, until they were ultimately both attacked, killed and dismembered (and partially eaten) by one. The documentary was made primarily out of Treadwell's original video recordings, then tied with interviews of various people that knew Timothy and supplemented with bits of Herzog's narration.

Beautiful in a cruel way.

8/10

Soundtrack by Richard Thompson. The fact that so much of the film is made up of Treadwell's own footage cost Herzog an AA nomination.

But this is such nonsense if you think better. He made a documentary about a person's life, how could have he made it any good without the man's own work/testimony/legacy? I confess at one point I thought he really used too much of it, but then again the composition of the film (original videos - interviews - narration) is excellent.

Grizzly Man (2005)
Kinda impossible to rate. There are so many layers in this film but then again the spreading his ashes -scene strikes me wrong. Documentaries are often hard to rate anyway. But I guess it wouldn't be wrong to call this film a masterpiece.

Yes, but whose? The film was ineligible for Oscar consideration because of the amount of material Herzog used that wasn't his own. I don't deny that  Herzog did an amazing job of editing and shaping Treadwell's original work,  but it has to be acknowledged that this is essentially a collaboration. Does that affect the film's reception? I think it must, and therefore, interferes somewhat with our ability to rate it.
