Rub me the wrong way, and I'll go off in your face

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109592/

The story follows a Cemetery caretaker by the name of Francesco Dellamorte whose job consist of killing (and re-burying) the recent dead when they return to life. The character of Dellamorte appears in the long running Italian comic book series Dylan Dog which is about a paranormal investigator (much like tv's  Kolchak: The Night Stalker).
Dylan Dog is the protagonist of the comic series but doesn't appear in this movie. Francesco Dellamorte (who only showed up twice in the comic series) is the star here.

The last great Italian zombie movie and perhaps the last great Italian movie in general?

The movie is very "episodic", a word that normally is used as a negative against a film but this time it fits with the mood.

A Hollywood sequel featuring the Dylan Dog character is on the way.

Had this movie for a looooooooooonnnnnng time and still haven't watched it yet. I have the AB disc under the US title of CEMETERY MAN. It was available as a bootleg for the longest time before it ever came out here. I always wondered what took so long as it always had good notices and supposedly blew away other Italian horror films during the 90's.

For those that read the original comic book series this is nothing more than rosewater, for the others (I can understand) cult material. Francesco Dellamorte is in fact Dylan Dog, only the film version, some things have been changed in the process but retained enough essence to be linked with the original. Rupert Everett's good in this. Although I know him by name, and that he's an actor, this is the single movie I remember watching him in. You go figure. François Hadji-Lazaro did his homework too, I understand he's a musician in France, he basically reprises his role in the 2001 Le pacte des loups. There's also good old Mickey Knox playing the town detective, and the young Anna Falchi; whose tits are reason enough to watch this.

I've never seen this. Looks cool. I'll give it a watch. I thought I'd never say that for a Rupert Everett movie unless there's something from the 80s I'm overlooking.

I really wanted to like this but I HATED the script. I don't mind episodic movies - when there is something holding the thing together, creating a pace and sustaining some sort of momentum - but it felt nothing more than plot overkill. I also hated the pace because of said script problems. The visuals are pretty good for the most part - sometimes great - and I certainly understand why some view this in such high regard. I don't care much for Italian Zombie movies - I don't like Fulci, though he certainly could put together a great sequence or two.
