As someone who has been a contributor to CR ("LA RESA-TORATION OF THE BIG GUNDOWN") I suggest you write to the magazine directly about your concerns.
The editor Lee Pfeiffer, is very interested in what subscribers have to say.
Typos are a problem -I requested an opportunity to review my own article before publication because of them. As has been mentioned,  there are NO advertisements. P Plus the magazine is printed on very high quality paper and in a large page format. The staff is basically 2-3 people, It aint VANITY FAIR folks!

Overall, I can't believe Leone fans will not love this special edition. It is not intended to be the definitive, SCHOLARLY, story of the films. It is meant to be informative , entertaining, and UNIQUE. And, on that level it succeeds admirably!

Check it out!
bruce

PS Don't procrastinate. Once it sells out it will go for $100 or more on EEBAY!

well, if you have his contact info, why don't you just send him the link to this thread   :)

Excellent article! Thank you so much!(Don't worry, I won't let D&D borrow my copy so he can take swipes at it. If there are any "mistakes", I'd rather not know about 'em).

Nice to read about some of the mistakes, some are new to me (I had no chance of reading it before the printing). This D & D guy probably would have been a good editor. At least when it comes to Leone. And in case he would work for free and really fast.

RETRO was started by film nuts to celebrate our favorite times in film making, not to make money. Nobody gets paid, printing such high-quality magazines in low numbers is incredibly expensive. So there is a limited amount of time & money & people.
We are very happy it survived almost 8 years now, in a time when it really gets tough for magazines...

'had to :)
Liked your article a lot, there's not enough on Western in CR. On the other hand,
it is hard to research on (the making of) Italian western, one can almost only fall back on DVD interviews.

Where you able to get a copy of the SOLLIMA DVD BOX ? Since it is OOP the prices soared.

So i finally found the place where I heard Frayling say that Lee Van Cleef was a painter: it was on that NPR interview he did which I bought from iTunes as an audiobook (it's like 2 bucks for an 45-minute interview). I just listened to it again, and he clearly says that Van Cleef was a painter of paintings, not a painter of houses
