Let's not forget that the 1959 Ben-Hur was itself a remake.

Yeah, true.

I don't know what sane minded reason could there in the world be for this. First of all I don't think many people today would even watch a Biblical themed movie, let alone a new one, second and most important: big epics need money, and the story of Ben-Hur is one of those that would suck millions and millions just to make an average time passer made for fans only. It is a given that money would never come back. And here they're making a made for TV remake with a bunch of more or less unknown faces. Great.

Similar to that there's allegedly a miniseries about Spartacus in the works. There was already a made-for-TV flick with Goran Visnic (?) a few years ago, I'm not sure why they're bothering.

I think you guys are forgetting that there was even a TV version of The Ten Commandments a few years back. As it was an entirely forgettable version, your memory lapses are easily forgiven. But the TV guys are always pulling these kinds of stunts.

Yeah, in the late '90s there was a huge rash of made-for-TV Biblical epics. It isn't anything new.

Maybe some religious zealot is paying for all the projects, that's the best reason I can think of.

I would imagine a good many people watch them, otherwise there wouldn't be so many. It may amaze you but not all of America are atheists.

Apparently it would amaze Tuco inasmuch as he doesn't think there'd be an audience for a Biblical film.

No! Really? Huh Shocked

Would there be an audience for the movie to make its money back or even make some profit, now that's something completely different. I don't think so.
