http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073582/

Watched this a couple of times (4 or 5) so far and enjoyed it every time, still, I don't know if I could praise it as a perfect movie as many (around me) do. It's not that I think it's a less valuable genre, but there's too much time spent on nothing palpable with Goblin's music playing around, before we get to the final ''picture or mirror'' twist. It's very probably Dario Argento's best picture and a great of its genre, but far from flawless. Call me a snob if you want.

7.5/10

Uh, 9/10... Strictly as a genre movie or as a movie in general?

Movie in general. I don't rate movies in accordance to their "genres".

That's interesting, so in your opinion it's as good as, let's say, Lawrence of Arabia?

I give Lawrence a 10, so no.

Deep Red did what it set out to and was extremely entertaining. That's enough for me.

That's what I said. I'd also give it a 9/10, but only as a genre movie. It gets 7.5/10 on general scale. That's why I asked.

Need there be a distinction? Unless you're implying of course that horror is an inferior genre.

I'm a snob as everybody else, I guess, but here no, I'm not implying horror is an inferior genre, it's just that there was a middle part when I didn't feel anything important for the story is happening. (I actually consider Profondo rosso to be a giallo before anything else, just to clear that out.)

But that's more about taste and preference than anything else; when I see a beautiful wide shot in a W, or a good duel, or something similar inherent to the genre, I feel happy like a kid, someone who's not a fan sees just a couple of filthy phony cowboys, since that's not part of his sensibility, so I guess it's the same thing for me here.

Still, 7.5/10 is very good.

I'm surprised that you've seen this, liked it so much and I completely agree with your  score.

This movie isn't flawed at all.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre. What did you think of the script?

We watched Argento and Bava as part of a film class freshman year of college.

There's more than one Bava.

I'm in agreement with Groggy and TH.
9/10.
My only concern is the music.
Very good... but too good.
Hard rockin' sorta deal by the Goblins.

It always kicks in during a suspenseful scene killing all atmosphere and creepiness Argento spent the time to develope.

For my money, this is Argento's best movie.

P.S. I'm sure there is already more than one thread on Deep Red already.
