No, I meant I don't understand what are they doing with the films.

They're not making them.

He was posting here less and less as the years went by

Years? Doesn't seem like he was around for that long.
Now we can't really know when he registered I guess...?
I liked him too.

I've seen this in the meantime, hopefully I'll snatch some free time and post my thoughts in a couple of days.

Anyway.

In short lines: a pointless exercise. In my, very humble opinion, they should have focused more on what made Alien a great SF franchise in first place. The atmosphere, the 'hang time', the pace, the ideas. They partially did this, but not in a good way. The biggest problem is they basically rehashed all of the characters from the first movie, and made them sillier, and then threw them in a Ickean scenario. Again I ask; what was the point? Also, a lot of times I had the feeling Scott was trying to even the score with Cameron, if there was, objectively, a score to even in first place (for the latter directing the sequel).

Standalone, this movie does deserve (a near) 7/10. In the franchise, it merely scratches a 6/10 on a sunny day.

Prometheus had only peripheral connection with Alien anyway. They should have kept it a standalone movie.

I thought it started really well then dive-bombed into cliched stupidity. Characters act stupidly to forward the story, the plot takes nonsensical twists and the creature designs are underwhelming. A forgettable turd, so pretty much par for the Ridley Scott course.

Well, they explained the genesis of the Xenomorph, I just don't understand why they needed a whole movie for that.

I didn't really need to see a giant alien vagina going down on a white space giant either.
