Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre. What did you think of the script?

next Wednesday (4/10/13), TCM will be showing Robert Ryan movies from 6 AM - 7 PM EST
http://www.tcm.com/schedule/index.html?tz=est&sdate=2013-04-10

Gangway for Tomorrow

Crossfire

The Woman on the Beach

Berlin Express

Return of the Badmen

Act of Violence

The Set-Up

Born to Be Bad

The Woman on Pier 13

Return of the Badmen is a Western; all others are either Drama or Suspense.

I have seen all of 'em except Berlin Express and Return of the Badmen.

Of the other 7, I'd say they are all worth a look at the very least, with the exception of
Gangway for Tomorrow and The Woman on Pier 13

Thanks for the heads-up. Sadly I'll be at work without a TiVo for most of that day.

In Mickey Knox's autobiography he relates an incident between Robert Ryan and John Wayne.

Ryan had been an intercollegiate heavyweight boxing champion and during the shooting of a film in Mexico, Ryan and Wayne were having a drink together in a bar.  They got into a heavy political argument, things became heated and finally Ryan invited Wayne outside to settle the matter.

Supposedly Wayne was famous for his bar fights but that day he decided to decline the offer and ordered another drink instead.  For several years afterwards Ryan and Wayne didn't speak to each other until they met again on the set of The Longest Day and became friends again.  They disappeared for a weekend, presumably on a drinking session together, and according to Mickey Knox when they didn't turn up for filming on Monday morning, Darryl F. Zanuck said of them "Boys will be boys".

Cool anecdote, Chris. That movie must have been The Flying Leathernecks. Ryan was really appalled about the blacklist and Wayne's part in promotion.

Here is next Friday's lineup (May 13)

http://www.tcm.com/schedule/index.html?tz=est&sdate=2016-05-13

The only movie I've seen from here is Gangway for Tomorrow, the one playing at 5:00 p.m. It's a crappy war propaganda movie. You see a bunch of people going to work in a factory for the war effort, and then each person has a flashback explaining how they got there, how they came to be a patriot and work in the factory. Stupid movie.
