I personally think it's OUATITW, but GBU is a masterpiece as well.  I cannot fault you for your taste in film either way, my friend. ;)

yeah, ouatitw is marvellous too. It's a great western with great actors...but I can do nothing for that, I prefer GBU as if ouatitw arrives in second position...

How about this: GBU is the best Western, and OUATITW is the best Meta-Western. Will that keep everyone happy?

OUATITW is a marvellous western but the first I saw in my life is GBU and so I think I had been marked by it.

Yesterday I watched a John Ford's western ("La chevauchée fantastique"; scuse me I don't remenber the original title...I'm very sorry, it's very very bad) and HO MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it a western? Nothing to see with Leone's movies. I don't say it's a bad western, but in comparaison with Leone...

Who are you?

« #9 : March 25, 2004, 03:55:19 AM »

i think GBU is the ultimate spaghetti western - leone perfects everything there is in the genre.
But OUATITW is the better film in my opinion. I dont really look at it as a spaghetti western - its a hybrid between the spaghetti and the traditionalist western and it has the best of both genres in it. its so different from every other spaghetti western.

Yeah, I agree. GBU is the ultimate spaghetti, the best of that genre. OUATITW on the other hand is Leone taking on the US western style (and improving on it by miles). It's almost a non-spaghetti Italian western.

It's class.

And I find that the score is so marvelous that that's why I prefer GBU

Sorry: I wanted to say that "La Chevauchée Fantastique" is the french title for John Ford's "Stagecoach" from 1939.
