Not bad until Stewart and co reach the Scotman's ranch.
Then it gets lame.
Real lame.

5/10

At this point Leone's westerns hadn't hit the American market yet.
I wonder if this film would have benefitted from it being made a few years after 67'.
As it stands, it's a cutesy-poo western that borders on Disney territory.

cutesy-poo

the entire board should play a game in which we have to incorporate cutesy-poo into all of our posts for a week.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre. What did you think of the script?

I liked it more than FC. The stampede scene is impressive and the ranch part is interesting, though marred by the untolerable Keith character. 6\10

I recently saw this one but I can't find it on the American Western index yet so I thought I would introduce onto the Sergio Leone board.

The Rare Breed has a rare cast with different personalities been mismatched together. It is a western about introducing an English breed of cattle to the Texas wild via a bull called Vindicator. It has James Stewart, Maureen O'Hara, Brian Keith, Juliet Mills and Jack Elam in it.

James Stewart fans won't be disappointed. He is a hard loner in this who doesn't see eye to eye with the usually feisty Maureen O'Hara. The very English Juliet Mills looks out of place in the rough Texas terrain. I like her line at the end "I like to think that he's out there somewhere." But I won't say any more as they would be spoilers.

I didn't know that it was Brian Keith under all that red hair until he shave his beard off. For a brief moment  I thought I could see him scrubbing himself with whiskey instead of soap when he is taking a bath. He is an untamed Scot in this

I think that the best scene is where we see James Stewart's devoted search for the bull during the blizzard. I was surprised that some parts of Texas sometimes gets snow and extreme cold as in this movie. I've always thought of it as a sub-tropical state.

There is some good scenery in this. It's spare story is dragged a bit however. The male cast is great. I'm not so convinced by the female characters not even the usually good Maureen O'Hara. But a reasonable film. 6/10.

Thanks Cigar Joe. I went down right to the end of Page 1 of the index which cut off in amongst the second list somewhere. But then I couldn't find a second page to click onto. I thought it strange that 'The Rare Breed' would be missing off the Sergio Leone board. I'll get that Index sorted in future.
