How do you read the reaction of Ramon Rojo towards his brother Esteban at the end of the massacre of the Baxter family? After John and Antonio are killed, Counsela Baxter comes out of the house and curses the Rojo brothers. While, Ramon is standing still, Esteban shoots Counsela, killing her instantly. Ramon looks back towards Esteban but does not say anything. I have always wondered about this scene and Ramon`s reaction. In my opinion, Ramon did not approve of Esteban`s action towards Counsela. Is it any bravery to shoot an unarmed, non-threatening person and that too a woman? Though Ramon was ruthless in his ways, in my opinion he was still "principled" to some extent and he saw the killing of unarmed Counsela Baxter as an act of cowardice from his brother Esteban.

Please share you opinion. Thank you.

I agree too. I think Ramon probably had respect for her.

Nah, I don't agree. Ramón would have killed her himself; they wouldn't have left any witnesses behind anyway and on the top of that she was a very intelligent and dangerous woman, that would know how to get revenge on them if left alive. He was probably just slightly pissed off at Esteban 'cause he killed her so soon while he wanted to enjoy her suffering for a little longer.

A man with such a high-pitched laugh and enormous sombrero must be making up for something.

I must say, I'd always gone with the idea that Ramon was shocked at his brother's behaviour. Whether Ramon himself would have done it or not, he seems a little surprised that his younger brother would do something quite so cold blooded.

Also got to agree....Ramon wanted to Kill her and he was annoyed at Esteban.....How can anyone who can kill nearly a hundred soldiers in one go and in cold blood have principles?

I think it is somewhat ambiguous, and intended that way. Ramon gives Esteban a sort of strange look, slightly puzzled. I think it is meant precisely for that reason; you are supposed to wonder: would Ramon have actually done that himself? Can't be totally sure, but maybe not. I believe Frayling said a similar thing on the dvd commentary...

I agree,  I think thats exactly what Sergio entended.  It gives the audience a chance to exercise their imaginations a bit, thinking up all the possibilities of what Ramon is contemplating.

This is just speculation but...  I think Sergio was a bit concerned about the audiences reaction to the deed and put in the reaction .
Frank from OUATITW took it one step further by killing an entire family including a child in cold blood.
