Eddie Pedack ( Alain Delon ) , a convicted criminal, has a steady job,
a wife ( Ann Margret ) and a daughter, and he puts a down  payment
on a boat. he also has a police detective Van Heflin and a brother  after him.
the first believes eddie shot him, the second Jack Palance wants him for
the last heist.

John Davis Chandler plays a bad to the bone henchman  "James Arthur Sargatanas "
a titular, sniveling, psychotic, homicidal, weasel, gangster w/ a pale complexional, nasal, whinny voice,
who has a " thing " for Eddie's 5 year old daughter.
creepy ( and frightening ), crazed out, and doped up.
Palance to Sargatansas. leans over rubbing his nose, noticing his affection for Eddie's little girl
" can't you once act a little human ? "

Crazy hyper-kinetic Ralph Nelson direction, beginning in a jazz club
that is crazy - cool. nelson really lays down the mid sixties jive, but
nelson's quasi - European handling of groovy cinematic tricks make
the film visually arresting.   Ass kickin ' music by Lalo Shifrin

Only on TMC.  Won't be put on dvd. There was a petition on TCM a few years ago to put the film on dvd. Nothing was done though as far as I know.

For the series:"Anything that can go wrong, it does". But the characters give it a great helping hand. So you have a delinquent brother (or the acolytes of him) perpetrating a hold up-cum-homicide just to frame his reformed little brother and force him to get back to crime ways. The little brother doesn't want his wife to work as a seminude waitress to earn a living for him and the baby and so he goes back to big brother and accepts the job. And accepts to do it with his brother's accomplices who are of the kind you would never have as partners not even for a tennis match. And of course, when he goes to do the job he brings with him the sheepskin coat that will point at him with the cops. And of course, when he and his brother try to dupe the accomplices little bro just forgets he has a wife and kid that could be used by the angry partners to regain the loot. And of course big brother makes himself easily available to his ex-partners as a shooting target. Add to that the melodramatic scenes of the happy family and you're left with little: a bit of fun listening to all those actors speaking italian (none of them being a native, including Heflin's mom), with Delon's english with a french accent (or was he dubbed?) though saying he comes from Italy. 5\10

I finally saw this movie, it played on TCM recently. And it's pretty shitty. The only fun watching it is laughing at how ludicrous it is. I was able to enjoy its ridiculousness. So my enjoyment level was maybe a 6/10.

I agree with much of what titoli said. You have Delon with heavy French accent (or possibly dubbed?) supposedly playing an Italian character. (No doubt, whether it is Delon's voice or not, it is post-dubbed, you can tell that the sound is coming from a different track and not recorded live.) His brother is played by Jack Palance, with Jack Palance's normal accent, throwing in a line or two of Italian here or there, and we are supposed to believe they are Italian. (I guess cuz all criminals are Italian, right?) Then Van Heflin is also supposed to be an Italian. His last name is even Vito. Yup pale-skinned Van Heflin as an Italian. Truth is, Heflin is one of the few decent things about this movie.

Figures that cj loves it it shows the San Francisco nightlife underbelly  (is there any other San Francisco?), the noiry nightlife, junkies, shitty clubs with skimpy-dressed waitresses, etc. But this movie is shit. Hilariously ridiculous shit.  Grin
