EL TOPO and THE HOLY MOUNTAIN have been released on italian dvd. Not sure when but xploited has/had them available. If you watch closely on the first STRANGERS movie you'll see a sliver of the TCM logo appear at the bottom of the screen tucked beneath the fake black bars. The prints didn't bother me. I've suffered through too many barely watchable prints of obscure shaw bros. films so the quality here was not a problem. Italian peplum fans should enjoy the second film more as former Hercules actor Dan Vadis plays the main villain just before going on to feature in a handful of Clint Eastwoods movies.

OH yeah, forgot to mention it earlier. Wink That Klein apparently only has the US rights for Jodorowsky's movies. So I'm not sure why it would be such a big problem for Jodorowsky that there can't be any US releases... Sure US people might have problems with PAL and or Region 2, but then again I would think that many of the people wanting to buy the Jodorowsky films probably import all kinds of wierd foreign stuff anyways... then again, maybe not, I don't know. Tongue

Raro from Italy is a good DVD company... I think... so I'm sure they would have the rights for their releases.

Holy Mountain and El Topo are also available from Japan, although their discs have some censoring of genitelia.

you would be right in that aspect. Grin

also why is it the Japanese have a problem with genitals and yet they dont mind cartoonish amounts of blood squirting out of people's severed limbs? Seems like the Japanese are much like us Americans who cannot stand our children watching naked men and woman and yet we allow them to sit through "Saving Private Ryan".

Is it the Puritan ethic still haunting us Cigar Joe? Grin

I might like it I think. Anything that derives from the usual of the genre I usually enjoy alot, If done well...

good question. That is something to ask him and it could lead to more information about Anthony.

Just saw "Get Mean". Its a strange one but not a bad one. I really should include this on my crap reviews because I know many consider this to be a crappy film (and I can see why it turns many off) but if I did include it in there I would be lying to myself. I really enjoyed this film. I will write a proper review later.

Review for "Get Mean"
or as I like to call it... "A Stranger on a magical mystery tour".

Oddness ensues in this spaghetti western as everybodies favorite under dog of the genre "The Stranger", is hired by a witch to escort a princess to Spain. Once in Spain The Stranger must ward off evil Barbarians, a crazed Hunchback, a gay man(played by Anthony's brother), Lesbian warriors, a raging bull, magic and even spirits who want to turn him into a wolf (  Huh )  in order to escort the Princess back to her castle and collect his reward of 50,000 dollars. Unfortunatly for our poor anti-hero the princess is kidnapped by the leader of the barbarians, Diego(played by Raf Baldessare), and so The Stranger must rescue her. By the first hour of the film Anthony's character has been brunt, hung up by his feet, beaten down and roasted like a pig until finally he takes up his trusty four barreled shotgun, some dynamite and a jar full of scorpions and decides to GET MEAN!

This is the fourth and final flick in "The Stranger" series and it is easily the weakest(have not seen "Stranger in Japan"), however it still manages to be entertaining and worth a view or two. In fact the only dull moment I can think of is when Anthony must go through some sort of magical quest through a cave. The scene is silly and unfunny and gets old quickly.

As far as acting goes Anthony is in his usual bad acting form(which mysteriously took a hike during the filming of "Blindman") but that is part of Anthony's charm and one wonders if he is really that bad or he just acts bad to get a laugh. Either way his hammy performance works!

There is also an inspired role by Loyd Battista(who plays Domingo in Blindman) as a crazy hunchback who fancies himself a great shakespearean actor!

The editing and action is sub-par as opposed to the usual Baldi film. Usually he combines fast paced editing with equally frenetic action sequences, but here his professionalism kinda takes a hike and it is missed. But it all sort of holds together some how mostly due to Anthony's performance as the lovable rogue.

It is a real shame this movie did poorly in the cinema. The intention was that if "Get Mean" was to do well more Stranger films would be made concerning him being a time traveler.
personally I would have loved to see Anthony face off against all types of foes in the "would be" later entries, foes like Dinosaurs, Nazis, Vikings, pirates, Charles Manson, Marylin Monroe, The Galactic Empire, The three stooges,  Leonardo Da Vinci, Homer and even Jesus Christ. Grin

Worth a view and easily worth a buy for the very cheap price you can get for it on Ebay. Luckily I got mine for free on a trade Grin
