Frayling mentions a funny story Leone said:  Leone was an assistant on on Ben Hur. During the shoot of Ben Hur, Wyler decided he needed to reshoot  a scene of their previous movie together, The Big Country. They needed another shot of Heston. (I think for the fight scene). so Heston put on his costume from THE BIG COUNTRY and shot the scene  there on the set of Ben Hur

Knowing  that Leone often exaggerated (or fabricated?) stuff, Frayling is careful to note that he actually confirmed the story with Heston!

The story is mentioned on pp. 74-75 of STDWD (that's Frayling's book SERGIO LEONE: SOMETHING TO DO WITH DEATH. All you newbies better read it. It's the bible of the SLWB  Wink )

I was ready to start laughing, but there seems to be a punchline missing. Again, why is this story "funny"?

4. Musical Score.  In Epic moves, a score can get campy, but this one, from the opening, all the way thru, was fantastic.

I purchased the score for my own collection. Jerome Moross lifts heavily from it for The Valley of Gwangi (1969) -  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065163/reference

Wow! Frayling commentary? I'm in! Day 1 purchase for me. (Actually,  I think that buying it immediately doesn't make sense, as the price often goes down right  after the official release. So maybe not Day 1, but Week 1 or Week 2  Wink )

How do you know you'll live that long? Some irate board member may take a shot at you. If the disc comes out and you can buy or steal it, do so. You wouldn't want to go to your grave knowing you'd left something important undone, would you?
