The Italian Job (1969) - around 6.5 out of 10

Apart from the comic characters and frenzy driving scenes, there's not much of a real heist now, is there?

Well, there's the apparent inferiority complex the brits felt towards italians and at a time when they were still world champions. Cool

In case Banjo reads this: I hope you don't own a spaghetteria in his vicinity. Cheesy

But apart from the jokes, don't you think that the constant remark "we'll show 'em" is rather obtrusive and unnecessary not to result a bit suspect?

It was slightly strange and unfounded, yeah, even for someone who's not Italian. I thought I didn't get something right...

The Italian Job (1969) - 6/10. 60s caper film, starring Michael Caine, Noel Coward, and 3 "oh-so-cute" mini-Coopers. The plot is a bit thin (important characters disappear without much explanation), and the potential conflict with the mafia never pans out. Also, the cliff-hanger ending (literally) betrays the fact that the script was never finished. Oh well: the UK (region free) blu-ray of this looks fantastic (as do other Michael Caine 60s films on imported blu-ray: Zulu and The Ipcress File are two other well-transfered titles). Getting psyched for Harry Brown!

That's what you get, Drink, for being such an annoying Melville fanboy.
