Saw this last night, a good sword and sandal epic, not as good as Gladiator though.

Could this be the start of another peplum craze?, and you know of course what will follow, lol.

I didn't think very much of this film. I wanted to like it, but found it extremely dull. Some of the action scenes very fine, and the older generation of actors very great. The younger generation, on the other hand, were extremely miscast. Only Eric Bana did ok.

My wife wants to see Troy this weekend ( Gee, I wonder why  Undecided).  I always envisioned Achilles a very specific way - a nasty, violent, impulsive badger type like a young Bob Hoskins in The Long Good Friday.  A pouting pretty boy like Brad Pitt is NOT an Achilles, but I guess you need him to pull the women through the turnstiles.  Kind of like having that mope Leo as the lead in Gangs of New York, he ruined that movie.  Felt sorry for Scorsese, you know the producers forced him on him.

I didn't watched the movie yet, but I think that with the boom of visual effects we are going to have a lot of of peplum movies.

Not saying that today  are we? Grin
Both were pretty shite though.
The Bana and Pitt spear fight was great. Rest of the film was a "seen it all before" for me.

Just watched this one today. I wanted to like it, but it was just very hard to get involved. It was very distant and sterile, for lack of a better word, rather than engrossing. Perhaps it was all the CGI? I dunno. The action scenes were well-done, but except for the one-on-one fights none of them were very involving or memorable.

The acting was mixed. Brad Pitt had the screen presence necessary for Achilles but his performance wasn't that great. Orlando Bloom and Diane Kruger were bland as always. Eric Bana and Sean Bean did a very good job with their parts, and needless to say I thought Peter O'Toole and Julie Christie were excellent. Brian Cox wasn't up to much either, and he's usually a marvellous actor.

I think a 5/10 is more than fair.

Nothing to do with Ilias. That say I as a literature teacher...

Peter O'Toole, Sean Bean and Eric Bana are good choices for the charakters, but Brad Pitt... he's good actor, but not for this. And that stupid blonde-painted hair!

Orlando Bloom is a thing of horror. Paris was a cute-nice-boy and in love (yes, in love!) with Hector? What he makes says this...  Shocked Shocked Shocked
I thought Paris was a great greek hero, sometimes a little coward, but a real MAN, if Helene choosed him...

But: I want to see Odyssey - naturally with Sean Bean. He's the perfect Ulysses.

I saw that one a long time time ago, in World Cultures in 7th Grade I think.

At least it was better than "O Brother Where Art Thou?" - and I'm willing to fight over that one. It sucked ass.
