to jump start the Western genre.

The new generation without a clue in a PC world ,<spoiler warning> but it's highly entertaining:

The Western genre? How about any film requiring any level of intelligent engagement? Dumbsh*t Nation rises.

As usual Jenkins likes to downplay the real state of things:

I confess I saw the clip four times in a row.  "Al-Qaeda is a wing of the masonic Order" is my favourite answer. But also the ones about Italy or France being the next country to invade are nice (and even logical: if you have to invade, invade the finer countries, not some frigging sand-box).  Grin

I'm afraid I don't quite get what's so entertaining about the IMDb thread...

There is a real disconnect with knowledge that has to do with anything other than what's the next thing to consume here basically.

Your frightful sentence structure provides copious food for thought.

to jump start the Western genre.

There are many factors.
The Genre hasn't been popular in decades.
Period pieces are firghtfully expensive to make.

but one of the reasons I keep coming back to, no matter how minor, is that there aren't larger than life stars anymore.
And while the Western's larger than life landscapes don't NEED to be complimented by stars like John Wayne it really should be.
