The Mechanic (2011) 7/10. There are few surprises in this re-make of the Bronson film, but it looks and sounds great (projected in 4K) and it is reasonably entertaining. The action flows well--the shots and edits reminded me a lot of John Woo's Hard Target--and there are no superfluities: action follows action. It gets pretty gory in places--one fight scene involving first a screwdriver and then a fireplace poker had me cringing. Later there was even a bit with a hand and a sink garbage disposal, but the filmmakers pussied out on that one. Anyway, there's a fairly impressive body count with plenty of lead in the air and lots of pretty explosions. How faithful is it to the original? Well, let's just say the producers have left the door open for The Mechanic 2.

In other words: "stick to the original".

Why can't one enjoy both? Even if you love the original, and end up preferring it, why would that make it necessary to forgo the new one?

So less unnecessary remakes will be made maybe?
