Perhaps it would have, had it not been for GBU, OUATITW, and OUATIA.

at first i thought FAFDM was pretty weak, but it grows on you. i think the first half isnt that great, but the last half hour or so is beautiful.

I agree. It's a great movie. But i prefer the first part. (Sure i really love the final gunfight and Agua caliente but there are too many incoherences during this second part)
Scuse me Leone!

You're right.
"You see in this world, there is two kinds of movies my friends: GBU, and the others."

FAFDM is just, i think, a "before GBU". Leone made sure a good film, better than many others, but we can see is two precedent westerns are the way to GBU...

to be completely honest, although i think it's a great film, i prefer fistful of dollars, gbu, OUATIW, fistful of dynamite, and OUATIA over for a few dollars more... i think fistful of dollars and dynamite to be horribly underrated and for a few dollars more to be horribly overrated... i can't see how people like it over all the other leone movies

i guess it just seems to me, watching FAFDM, that this is the only movie leone just didn't give his all... like hawk said, it's just another western he made to build up to gbu... it just doesn't ooze with all out leone-force like his other 5 movies do.

It's a great movie but not Sergio's best.   Though on a level with Fistfull and a great follow-up in that regard.  Col. Mortimer is a great character, and it's good to know Sergio realized smoking pot lead to crime.

In fact, what I dislike the most in this movie, it's the montage (edit). I find it very bad... :(

What I found impressive is Gian Maria Volonte performance. He''s really good as a disturbed and tortured guy. All is in his eyes, strangely clear, his gaze. He doesn''t need to do big gestures to worry.  Surely this man was born to incarn a bad guy! He gives a certain class to the movie.
