Title: You and Me (1938) Pre-noir idiocy
Post by: titoli on March 06, 2021, 03:51:28 AM
Signed Fritz Lang, alas. I checked this because of the Kurt Weill score, though not being his orchestration it was actually interesting for the two songs, heavy with sermon-like lyrics. The story, if you call it so, is stupid melodrama, with a slight "comedic" didactic (both in literal and brechtian sense) intermezzo. But it is the 5 minutes prison evocation which is full of expressionistic style images which might authorize some people call it noir. But what is original is Lang's use of the soundtrack with rumours, sounds, music which makes this interesting, if you can manage not being bored by the Sidney-Raft romantic escapades. 6/10
