Just read on E Bay in a review of FOD that the poncho is the same one used in all 3 dollar films and was never washed or
replaced...see....

If thats true what happened to the bullet holes in FOD?

I think so... I know Clint has commented that they only had one set of his wardrobe, so he had to bring his clothes with him to the hotel every night so it wouldn't get lost. I dont know if this goes for all of the clothes or just some, and if it's only for one of the movies or for all. Very likely it is.

Same thing that happened to the bullet holes in his hat in FFDM?

If I recall the hat always had holes in it. My question was if the poncho had holes in it in FOD which was filmed 2 years before GBU, and there was only one poncho....what happened to the holes in GBU?

The evidence sugests that there were more than one poncho, perhaps one especially for the action & fx and one for the rest of the regular filming.
-
Are there ACTUALLY holes in the poncho in FoD though? I mean I know he gets shot wearing it but did they actually go to the detail of putting holes in it in reality?
-
no we don't know its all speculation ;D

Good thought red...maybe they are just black dots stuck on which could be easily removed. Cant remember if you could actually see through them. I have read in one or two write ups that there was only one poncho and clint took it everywhere with him during filming..

I had wondered the same thing. It's been a while since I've watched A Fistful of Dollars, so I wasn't sure if you could actually see the holes in the poncho. You only see the dents in the steel plate, right?

Hi Chris....just watched it again...and you cant really tell although they do look pretty real. Anyway guess we'll never know.
By the way...what a moderator do?

Read through the threads and make sure nobody misbehaves. ;D
I'm curious now to watch that scene in FOD again. I don't remember the exact details of what is shown.

How do you get that Job ??? ???

I noticed something about FOD and FFDM - in FOD it's his left hand that gets crushed but the brace is on his right hand in FFDM.
-
You know I don't think the two items are really related, the wrist brace is an aid for someone who shoots a lot (Manco), I think its a matter of Leone having more dinero for sets, costumes, and production.
I'd have to watch bothe films again though, lol.

It was the same poncho, but in other movies Clint is wearing in the opposite way (the front is now the back) In fact, there is a scene in A Fistful of Dollar when he arrive to El Paso (after talk with the boy and turn to the door hotel) where you can see the holes that were repaired by a tailor, maybe

From previous topics on the board it is said Clint took the poncho after filming GBU and had it on display in his restaurant in Carmel

But... it`s that true. Anybody saw it? Or... Took it a picture at least?
-
Well iceman,
I believe you have brought a very good point. Good question but back to Joe's reply, He did have one wardrobe and actually had to bring the cigars he smoked from the States. Had to put them out afer each take and save em so he wouldn't run out.
The had does have holes in it, or at least one.
by the way anyone know where i can get a hat like that for a good price?????
but in for few d m he get the hell shot out of it by the Colonel
interesting!
and he doesn't get the poncho til the church in GBU
-
When I was in his restaurant (Hog's Breath) in 1986, there was no spaghetti stuff on display. But that doesn't rule out a back room or an office.
-
Here's a pic of those holes from GBU (near Eastwoods right shoulder)- I had a chance to see the real poncho this week at the Autry Museum Leone exhibit- and they match up exactly.
The pic is huge by the way- enjoy.

Hey, Jordan, how was the exhibit - I'm going in about ten days. who "owns" the poncho, was there a sign, like does Clint own it and just donated it for the exhibit? How crowded was the exhibit, like was there a wait (obviously you were a Turquise member or above - how were the special events at the special preview, since normal operation starts today/tomorrow) ???

I've actually posted a mini-review in the sergio news section of the forum, you should check that out- to answer your questions specifically, Clint owns the poncho, it's been in his possesion since after GBU- he's loaned it to the exhibition for its duration. I went to the benifactor premeire - by purchasing the turquiose membership - so it was crowded, but not too bad. The "special events" were ok, if you didn't go, you didn't miss anything huge really. I was lucky enough to meet and talk with a few "celebraties" like Frayling, Mickey Knox, John Landis, Joe Dante and a couple of other people like the editor of this great new magazine called Cinema Retro. So that for me was the highlight. To go through everything, it'll probably take about 1-2 hours to really get to know the exhibit. There are some really cool things there that I won't mention- so I don't ruin your suprise. I would say it's really worth the trip.

The poncho is at the Leone exhibit - I saw it there myself - Clint has had it all along. The bullet holes from Fistful have been sewn closed.

THE HOLES IN THE PONCHO MYSTERY IS NOT THEONLY MYSTERY OF THE SACRED PONCHO. WHAT ABOUT THE COLOR OF IT. THE FIRST TWOFILMS IT IS GREEN. BUT IN GBU IT IS BROWN.SOMEONE ONCE TOLD ME THAT IT LOOKED BROWN BECAUSE OF COLOR SATURATION, BUT THAT IS BULLSHIT CUZ EVEN IN THE RESTORED VERSION IT IS BROWN.

Cuss...To satisfy the colour discrepancy....what was the colour? ...green or brown?

Poncho looked more brown to me than green. I could understand why it might look greenish under certain light, brownish under another (lighting at the exhibit was not bright). The replica ponchos for sale in the museum gift shop ($500) also looked brown, may be the same item as on http://www.spaghettiwesternreplicas.com/poncho.html which calls it "brown and white". The text from the museum gift shop calls it olive green(http://autrynationalcenter.org/storedetail.php?category=1&productid=10212) states "This handsome, and instantly recognizeable poncho, looks great on both men and women. The design of this 100% wool olive green blanket, with ivory pattern and fringe, offers classic style. The unique geometric pattern is machine woven into the blanket so it appears on both sides of the poncho. A minimum of twenty hours of work goes into the production of each of these special pieces, made here in America. Available in 4 sizes, Extra Large is recommended for anyone 6’4” or taller. Because these are handmade, and due to demand, there may be a 2 to 4 week waiting period. "
