Title: Fitzcarraldo (1982)
Post by: Tucumcari Bound on May 12, 2007, 11:53:41 PM
Fitzcarraldo which was directed by the great Werner Herzog starring Klaus Kinski is supposedly a great film. I loved his work with Aguirre: The Wrath of God but have not had the chance to see Fitzcarraldo yet. I also noticed Claudia Cardinale also stars in this film and was wondering how much she's in it, and of course, how good is the movie in your opinion?

Its a great film for Kinsky and Claudia though she has not as much screen time.

But, also get "Burden of Dreams" about the making of this film its a hoot.

Yes, I've heard "Burden of Dreams" is a good documentary. I'll pick up both when I get the chance. Thanks cigar!

Both are great, I highly recommend them. Claudia doesn't have too much screen though.

Fitzcarraldo is interesting without being very satisfying (where's the ending?). Burden of Dreams is better, but your enjoyment of it is enhanced if you've seen Fitzcarraldo first. A good double bill.

I ended up watching this a day before I saw Herzog speak at a local college. Claudia hardly gets any screen time, but it's certainly one of Herzog's best movies. Far ahead of Aguirre, Enigma Kaspar and Woyzeck.

:P

I'll have to watch this again some day, not least because of the fact that I've never seen the first 10-15 minutes :-\

I saw this back to back with Aguirre.  Its a OK film.  I didn't like the whole opera backdrop of the film.  The interesting points were the trip down the river with the boat and the pulling the boat up over the mountain.  This was well done.  The opening sequences and the ending sequences featuring the opera singing was just blah...  I rank this one 7 out of 10...
