Title: The Times' WORST Endings of All Time
Post by: Groggy on July 17, 2008, 05:52:54 PM
As a counterpoint to their article on the other extreme...

I do agree with a lot of these - TWBB, Apocalypse Now, Grease, even Monty Python - but some of the picks are just downright laughable, particularly the top (bottom?) five.

Citizen Kane? REALLY? Reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Peter taped over the whole movie leaving just a short message of him saying "I just saved you from two long boob-less hours."

That is LITERALLY the absolute worst list I've ever seen for anything.

If they think Kane has the worst ending ever (which obviously they don't ...it's a sorry cry for attention) then they just need to re watch the fucking movie. From the description of the ending the writer clearly didn't understand the fucking point of the movie and the significance of the sled.

Nonetheless, Welles himself dissed the ending on several occasions, even tried distancing himself from it by blaming his collaborator.

The comment on Holy Grail is pretty silly. I wonder if they actually understand the movie? The cops show up because the historian has been murdered (by the knight riding by). The ending is the punchline to that earlier gag; I've always appreciated it.

Fair enough, but I still think it's rather dumb regardless. The list is invalidated, however, by excluding The Game.

I get the feeling this may have been written by a 12-year old, no offense to any 12-year old posters we have around.  Doesn't like the ending to The Great Escape because only 3 escape and Hilts is put back in the cooler?  Last I checked, that's how it happened.  Gotta love movie lists, don't ya? ;)

TWBB is NOT one of the WORST ending's of all time. Hell, I'm surprised this idiot didn't put A Clockwork Orange on the list.

I agree that 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 16 aren't exactly great endings, and I'm not overly pissed off about their inclusion. And it should be noted that we're referring to the remake of Planet of the Apes, not the original. But come on? Kane? Brief Encounter (I absolutely LOVE that ending personally)? Maltese Falcon? WHAT GIVES, MORONS!?

Well, yeah. Without it, the whole point of the movie gets flushed.

What!? Apocalypse Now left me :o at the end. That killing scene was great! Hearing Brando's "The horror... the horror..." at the end was also a great touch.

And 2001!? I'll bust...

Though I haven't seen Citizen Kane I know that it's a well-liked classic and I say this: For someone to seem 'cool' they always leave the last one in an ironic twist in which they show that they have eye-rolling feelings about something popular. Sons a...
