Title: Leonenut restoration
Post by: Novecento on June 04, 2009, 10:41:07 AM
I finally managed to get my hands on this.

It is absolutely wonderful. Leonenut basically creates the longest version possible with a choice of English and Italian mono (with one scene when Jill is in the bathtub being subtitled in the English version due to lack of English audio). I have not watched it through from start to finish yet but have just scanned through some of the scenes. The colors are distinct (a browner hue for the Italian version) which makes the additional scenes more discernible but it does not appear to be be distracting.

Most impressive is the excellent special feature which clearly documents, via descriptions of the scenes and accompanying footage, all the differences between the International Cut and the Italian cut. This should put to rest all discussions over the differences between them; I watched this in one sitting.

I'll post a complete review when I have had time to sit down and watch the whole thing.

Once again, I cannot recommend this enough.

(P.S. he also appears to have done the following fanedits: FFDM with a few extended scenes; GBU with extended Tuco torture scene and Italian audio for redubbed English sequences; DYS with fixed dialogue and audio. All have English and Italian mono).

Is this something one could purchase?  If so, where?

I'm trying to download FADM, DYS and OUATIW but the rapidshare links are dead. Is there another online source to download these?

I can't understand all the complicated download stuff on that page; it is confusing. If someone has it and is willing to copy it for me, I'd happily pay for it. Please PM me. Thanks

Although I have not even attempted to go back to the leonenut restoration (I can't be bothered with complex internet downloads), I have found something just as intriguing a few nights ago.

Apparently someone put up the full Italian version of the film of youtube! Even though there is no English audio, any OUATITW fan certainly doesn't need it, and all the extra footage is there! It's quite exciting to see additional shots from your favorite movie for the first time.

Here's the link to the first of 18 clips:

For a side note: Much of the extra footage from the first two scenes made its way into the Scorsese restoration and then from that point on there was no more footage added in (even though there's a great deal of them).

so this Italian version on youtube is longer than the "full" American version of 165 minutes?

Yes, the italian version is longer, but unlike all of the other italian cuts of Leone films, it's not necessarily the "director's cut"... It doesn't really have any deleted scenes, just deleted/lengthened shots/alternate angles. I'm not exactly sure when or where this longer italian cut originated but I seem to recall that it was put together in the late 90's? Information is pretty sparse, so if someone here knows more feel free to chime in...

here's a text list of most of the differences:

And this site has a great pictorial representation of the differences:

For those confused, the actual download is on fanedit.info, under Extended Editions. It took me a while to figure out, but once you get to the right place, it should be simple...

EDIT: So it's not. The rar's have some weird filetype in them. Oh, dear.

Can you tell us what the file types are?

EDIT: Right, it's a bit complicated. The rar file has two files in it, a .dlc (download container) and a .nfo (Info). You can read the .nfo file with Notepad, its just plain ASCII, and it has the instructions. You need to install something called JDownload, it's a Java download tool - it will use the .dlc file to go and find all the bits of the DVD (78 different parts) on Rapidshare. Unfortunately, it seems all 78 parts are "offline" or "Unavailable", which makes me think they may have expired. So, this may be a fruitless exercise.
