Leone was there for sure..... I was asking myself that question for years until I found those:

It would have been very surprising that Leone wouldn't be there since that flashback is the powerful sequence and final revelation at the end of the movie.

We went to the site in 2005 and 2008. We planned to go back there in two or three years. The atmosphere is so special and it's so quiet there.... just like a cemetary!!

Off-Topic Discussion / Stanley Kubrick homage
« on: February 04, 2011, 10:45:48 PM »
I wanted to share with you guys, an homage that one of my long time friend did on Stanley Kubrick. He started this video some time ago, compiling a few hundred hours to achieve it, and now, this is the final work. He posted this on youtube along with a few blog spots on cinema. Positives responses are extremely well received by now. As we are all Leone's fans, I'm sure many of you appreciate also Kubrick's movies. I did a small part on the project, which is editing the music of the first part (music by Dead can dance). So here it is, put the volume at a reasonnable level and enjoy!!

Nope....this is not an horror movie, it's a classic. Don't worry, you won't have to start shooting horror titles. hint? It's a movie from 1990.

No, it's not my sister lolll!  All right, horror movie is way too vast, from B to Z series. So I'll stay in classic movies to honor Leone and this forum, I'll post a screenshot soon, let me think about which one!

Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: The arch (2008 version)
« on: September 12, 2008, 06:51:25 AM »
Cusser, you're right. I remembered that fact in 2005 also. But I also noticed that in most of the souvenir shops, there is books about films that were shot in MV. Not a single mention about SL, but Steven Spielberg with Back to the Futur 3, yes, Ridley Scott with Thelma and Louise yes, No Leone mention. Strangely, it's one of the top western of all time! But he's not American, that's why.

Once Upon A Time In The West / The arch (2008 version)
« on: September 11, 2008, 08:44:50 PM »
Hi all. Presently on vacation. I am in Flagsaff, taking the road for Sedona tomorrow. We went to the Grand Canyon (2 days) and Monument Valley at Goulding's lodge. The view from our balcony was breath taking! I went to the arch and gladly saw that it was the same (almost) as it was in 2005 when I went for the fist time. The wooden beam is still there. I don't think many folks (besides Leone fans) go there quite often, fortunately. Took around 15 pics but the first time I went, I took something like 50 pics from all angles. Inside Monument Valley, I saw a few shot locations, but it is forbidden to get off the road to take a closer look. I tried, but one of the fellow Navajo resident horse riding yelled at me from a distance. I couldn't understand a damn thing but it was easy to understand that he tried to tell me to get the f..ck out of there. Anyway, so far it is an extremely nice trip and felt sad and melancolic on site!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: the GBU Stone

Quote "We know Clint retained the poncho and costume, and we know the location of the arch.  But another show could be where the Harmonica is."

Hey Cusser, you're right, I like that idea! but like the GBU stone, there was more than one harmonica used. Remember when Frank draws the harmonica, it is in perfect shape but when he puts it in young Bronson's mouth, it's kind of busted or bent. But still, that would be wonderful and........how about the bell? I am going back to monument valley in September and I am going to dig all around the arch lolll!!!  ;D      Just joking...but I am really going back though!

The location on google earth is quite correct and the canyon is the one in front of the arch, the one where Frank comes out in the flashback, out of focus.

When I went to MV in 2005, I took over 60 pics of the arch and the surroundings from different angles and I took this one specifically to show the tracks and the canyon in the background, I was standing on top of one of the remaining pillars. See my post with many pics here: http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=2391.0

And here's a pic of the road 432 sign:

If some of you folks want to see more pics, just ask me. Also, Cusser went there too a year later and he sent me pics...And judging by his smile, I think he was happy lolll

Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Let's Send Someone To Monument Valley!
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:00:51 PM »
I went to MV in September 2005 and I plan to go back next september even though I'm from Montreal, Canada. I'm the one who started the thread "My trip to Monument valley and the arch" so I'll start another one called "My trip to MV (Reprise)".. ;) Last time, I took around 300 pictures in one week, not only Monument valley but Grand Canyon too. I"ll do the same but in two weeks. LAst time, I just felt I missed time and I went back home almost with a tear in my eyes.

No need to be arrogant because I don't post often, Tuco. You may be an extraordinary member but I am there since 2003 and I am one of the biggest Leone fan. I was just trying to help about that project and I simply didn't know he passed away, that's all. That is also one of the reason I don't post often, people are often sarcastic and make other feel like dumb people, not specifically here, but on many forums. And you know what is a discussion forum? It's supposed to be a place where people SHARE A PASSION and information. You gave me an info but the way you did it is unacceptable. You have to treat people the same way as if they were in front of you and I hope you're not like this in real life!

I think that would be an excellent idea, a great project, I am 100% behind this...only, and only if it could be done EXACTLY the same way it was. If it does not really look the same, then I would prefer to see the remains preserved as is. This is my humble opinion. And speaking about rebuilding the arch, as far as I know, Carlo Simi is still alive, he designed it. Is there any way someone can try to find him or contact him, who knows, maybe he still have the plans or something. That could be greatful, I don't know.

Sergio Leone News / Re: Whatever happened to that OTHER book about OUATITW?
« on: February 19, 2007, 09:42:29 PM »
I do remember about that book. I think it was supposed to be called "Once upon a time in the west: Tribute to a masterpiece" The guy had a website about that. I even suscribed to his mailing list and he was supposed to keep everybody informed about the futur release. It was going to be the most complete book about OUATITW and I was waiting for it too. There was also pictures of the building of the arch and the "behind the scenes" pics too...anyway, one day, the site went off. I guess that fellow abandoned cause I had no further news after. That is just too bad. By the way, sorry for my english, I hope I make myself clear enough loll!
