The Postman Always Rings Twice and Double Indemnity are on back to back on TCM today 3/29.

Once Upon A Time In America / Re: Hommage in Angel Heart

Angel Heart was made only a few years after, which is a little soon for "hommage."

Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Three men

It was marketing BS to appeal to women.  Didn't come from Sergio or his folks.

I never tried to. I just took issue on the fact that you said that Leone entering as director at a late date was the reason the film is not up to par. That is not enough substantial evidence to condemn the film as not being in the same league as his other films.
The film condems itself as not being in league with the others.  What Sergio coming in late because the lead actors begged for him is a possible REASON not anything I am using as EVIDENCE.   The film is the evidence and it's not as good as the 4 others I mentioned in my opinion.

Matrix:Revolutions was abysmal.

I fail to see the significance in the words "TOOK OVER" in capital letters. Is that supposed to justify that it does not rank up with the other two? I hardly see that as any excuse not to give Duck you Sucker its due.

Its doesnt matter if leone came in late, he still managed to create a masterpiece.
I think it's signficant because I do think that is the difference between DYS and his masterpieces.  It's not as organically Leone as the others and it shows at the seems.

And as far as I'm concerned I am giving DYS its due, just not what you think it is due.   That's fine.   You can't convince me that it's better than I think it is, and I can't convince you that it's not in a league with FOFDM, GBU, OUATITW or OUATIA.    At least it's better than other Zapata's for the touch Sergio added.

I strongly disagree with that.
You're free to.  I don't find it remotely close to the other two.  On the other hand I think Zapata Westerns in general are utter crap, so I might be biased at the one Sergio backed into.  I mean it's better than other Zapata's, but it doesn't stack up with the stuff Sergio helmed from pre production on.

It's probably Once Upon a Time in America, but if you asked me tomorrow, I would say Once Upon a Time in the West.    Duck, You Sucker, which he TOOK OVER during production, doesn't rank with the other two.

The Leone's are better and cooler than any other Westerns.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: GBU theme first heard in Mag7!!!
« on: March 23, 2006, 12:21:15 AM »
Leone was a big fan of Mag7 as it was the first Western to adapt Kurosawa...   Fistull was second (or third depending on when Outrage was actually released).    With his attention to detail I wouldn't be surprised by the musical riff at all.
