General Discussion / Re: Characteristics of Spaghetti Western

SW editors seem to have at least tried to get the dubbing down, which I can't say for the other genres.

Tell me about it, lol. I was watching this kung fu movie at a friends house. A group of fighters walked up to another. The "leader" of one gang
actually says in his dubbed voice,,,"What're Y'all doing here?". I just shook my head.,,,,SAE

The general??

TUCO?? I think he could pull it off, if he could drop the nasal jersey accent long enough, lol

While the concept of treasure is used repeatedly in film as a kind of MacGuffin, it was new to the Western, a genre of film in which the motivation of the protagonist had previously been based on something wholesome, or at least morally acceptable, rather than just empty greed.

It's called realism, lol. The old West wasn't milk and honey and wholesome characters..,,,,SAE

Nihilism? That must be exhausting. Sorry, random Coen brothers quote, lol.,,,,SAE

Anyone notice how much the bullwhipped and shot to death Sheriff in the High Plains flashback scene, looks very much like Clint? Enough to be brothers even. Could be revenge? They never really developed the setup very much in my eyes, or the meat of it was edited out. I would vote for Paint Your Wagon. I can't bring myself to hate many Clint movies, and Joe Kidd I have never seen lately. I don't even remember the story line. Pale Rider is pretty good for a modern Western. Two Mules doesn't even bother me that much.,,,,SAE

eidt: Ohhhhhh, Joe KIdd, the "Where's Luis Chama" movie. I remember now. ;)

Wow! Never thought of it that way! Umm, but you forgot the CANNONS. The film is lousy with them! Lots of closeups of them firing, like in pirate
flicks. They even had the one on the back of the union army prisoner train, sticking out of a hole in what? A planked wooden structure?! Just like the side
of an old sailing ship.,,,,SAE

Not so great dubbing gives them a great charm.

Like the Sheriff when Blondie turns in Tuco, in GBU. He sounds like Walter Mathau with a clothespin on his nose, haha!,,,SAE

In other words, if the voice doesn't even remotely sound like it would come out of that character, then it's a good SW. O0

I just found this at an antique/junk store for $2.50. It's a pretty horrible copy to begin with, since the package and tape appear to be new. Color is too hot, contrast too black etc.

Anyways. Man this movie stinks, lol. I thought I would like it, and I do for the same reason I like most dubbed movies. Either it was dubbed, or the sound was just that far off, sheesh. The only good actor in the whole movie is Lee Van Cleef. The whole hokey connection to the OK corral shootout was just too contrived and made up. Scott(y) Mary sure got tough fast too, lol. Horrible movie, but good to have in the collection at least. I get to see how Lee does without Clint around. He does pretty good, too bad the rest of the actors stunk. ::) I give 2 1/2 stars,  strictly for Lee being in it.,,,SAE

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: GBU Coffee Mug
« on: March 02, 2005, 03:50:25 PM »
Why the hell do you make a coffee mug that cannot be used for coffee? Kind of like a full size car replica with no engine, lol. Kind of funny that it may contain lead, I mean look at it's subject matter, hahaha.,,,,SAE

On backorder, SIGH!! Thanks for the link though, I had no idea they even existed~~~!

Or a hobby?

Well, I also believe he liked the Captain, and felt at least some pity towards him and his plight. The man was drinking himself to death over
the absurdity of the situation(fighting over nothing) Also don't forget him giving the dying soldier his coat and a last smoke once they got across. Blondie had some compassion, and was as his given label says, basically good. He even announces to the Captain to expect good news. Of course some of it may have been self motivating, why wouldn't it be. This may have been the only shallow enough spot to cross the river for MILES?,,,,SAE

That's Eli himself, as the 3rd Mr. Freeze on the original batman series...And,,, I don't think I would either, lol.,,,,SAE

Love it, although it is a little slow paced? Maybe just my connection speed, or lack thereof. VERY cool though! Thanks!,,,,SAE

I have some black powder replicas? Is that what you were referring to, or originals?,,,,SAE

Hope you saved your pennies, I'm pretty sure those are going to be slightly expensive. There are authentic looking replicas that you can buy without waiting. They don't fire, but who wants to try and fire a 152 year old weapon anyway? I'm sure it's possible if it's in perfect working order, but then it goes back to the expensive part again.,,,,SAE
