The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Various versions
« on: May 22, 2011, 09:00:47 AM »
I wonder how many cuts of tgtbtu there are? i had a version videoed from bbc1 in 1979 that had the italian writing on the freezeframe, lacked the rebel POW telling blondie he is luckier than his pal and the union gaurd saying more feeling and play that fiddle. when blondie kicks tuco awake he says tuco tuco beforehand, which isn't on the dvd. this version also lacked the sorry tuco bit. i bought the pan and scan version and that had the pieces that were missing from tv version included. i also went to a cinema showing and the whole scene in the gunsmiths was deleted, i think that this was the version released in the UK in the 60's. which must be the shortest running version in existence.

At their camp by the river blondie shoots one of AE's gang. however there are 5 members of the gang at the POW camp and Blondie counts 5 at the riverbank. did the guy he shoot at just dive out the way and tumble down the bank? i'm sure it's clem who he later kills

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / IS Blondie really that good?
« on: July 16, 2008, 02:53:18 PM »
How come poor Angel Eyes is labelled The Bad? He only kills 3 people and one of them is in self defence, technically.Blondie kills 11 men, 3 in self defence i admit. He leaves poor Tuco to die in the desert as well. I know he briefly tends to a young dying soldier and makes a powerful speech about seeing so many men wasted so badly. But Angel Eyes seems equally moved by what he sees at the ruined fort. He also gives a bottle of wine to the sergeant. Who, given the conditions he was living in, must have considered this a great act of kindness. Blondie is also a bit of a cheat. the only reason he outgunned Angel Eyes, is because he knew he didn't have to worry about Tuco as his gun was empty. Although Blondie unloaded Tuco's gun for other reasons. It proved lucky for him in the gunfight. In fact Blondie is lucky all through the film. what luck does Angel Eyes recieve? none at all. Leone should have named the film The Spawny Get The Bad and The Ugly.PS, I know people will point to his actions in the prison camp. But  like he said " Are our men treated that well in Andersonville?"

« on: July 14, 2008, 01:38:00 AM »
i'm planning a pilgrimage to Valle Del Tabladillo. does anyone know the route from burgos. i will be driving from santander ferry terminal and it seems straightforward enough to get to Burgos. but after that i'm not sure. the AA route planner is useless and i haven.t been able to find a decent map on the net. any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers

« on: July 09, 2008, 03:17:43 AM »
When Tuco has his relaxing bubble bath rudely disturbed and blows the one armed bounty hunter into oblivion.I could swear the stuntman filling in for Al Muloch is Benito Stefanelli. But i'm not 100% sure.Anyone else noticed this?

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / missing footage
« on: July 04, 2008, 05:02:20 AM »
In sir christopher frayling's book something to do with death.he reports that leones initial cut of tgtbtu ran to 4 hours, but was cut down to 3 hours in italy, which is the longest version of course. all this means there is still an hour worth of lost footage somewhere. a lot of stuff shot was explained away by the half soldier to angel eyes and the audience.originally the 2 characters were discussing something else. however leone got in a panic as his film was going to run to  5 hours.did he shoot the actual yankee ambush, the court hearing ,the burial of the gold and angel eyes coming across the dead sergeant ,whose identity he assumes? the novel from the 70's starts with the ambush for instance.how much lost footage is out there waiting to be discovered?
