General Discussion / Re: I hate it when SW's are made "campy"

I quite like the way people refer to GBU without knowing anything about it - kinda shows Leone's all-pervading influence :-)

I see. Cheers

I've often wondered how close the gunshop scene came to being cut.  Its only plot function is to tell us where Tuco got his gun from.  Has it ever been cut from any versions or TV broadcasts?

Unless by "American" he means on the subject of America?

Djimbo, I dare say I'll grow to appreciate OUTITW more as I watch it more - having seen GBU more probably gives me my bias.  That said, I don't think there's anything especially bad about it now.  It's just that GBUs better!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: I really don't enjoy this film.

The added scenes tend to explain little questions that aren't necessarily glaring but will occur to people watching this film after a few times.  Where does Tuco get his three friends from?  How does Angel Eyes find his way into the army?  Why do Tuco and Blondie end up at the mission?

I'm probably just a bit thick (or unmusical) when listening to gun "tunes" in the Extended Length Version, but I can't really tell the difference.  So it doesn't really bother me!

I agree with Djimbo's point about GBU being more entertaining - but I think this gives GBU the edge.  Sometimes I think OUTITIW can sometimes get a bit TOO arty, whereas GBU is just populist enough to prevent it becoming dull, and just arty enough to make it the best film ever.

It would be interesting to see what MWNN did with all the gold from the end of GBU so that he ended up poor by the beginning of FOD (assuming they ARE the same person ;))

General Discussion / Re: THE BEST LEONE FILM?

I think the best is GBU.  OUTITW is artistically more accomplished, but too much so in my opinion.  I think GBU has more of an entertainment factor, without compromising the quality of the film-making.  And to me at least a good film has to be entertaining.
