Once Upon A Time In America / Re: Fan encounter

The music from the film "Arena Concerto" (some of it) on this CD:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000W3O3I/qid%3D1135239105/203-7017569-9813518

And yes, it is a suite - but performed with such intensity and "live"-feel - the sound quality is sublime - lacks some of the soprano parts though...

It's scary - I was talking to a film producer recently, younger guy, trying to get a horror movie made, and his cinematic memory stretches all the way back to Blade, with Wesley Snipes! That's his idea of an older, 'classic' movie, for the love of God!

Tell me you are kiddin', please...

By the way - listen to Morricones Arena Concerto and the beautiful version of OUATIA performed live... it's just so goddamn beautiful - like Duck you Sucker on the same disc - these two are clearly the most beautiful themes from the concerts a couple of years ago...

Right, now I'm up to date with the whole troll-thing - beginning to understand - I always thought that there's one guy who's got nothing else to do.

Money to troops? What on earth does that mean? That is speaking in tongues... I was talking about earthquake victims in Pakistan...

Gee, I'm sory if I hurt your feelings, Hex. I was just responding to this:

"not that i care much i am afraid to say. i dont watch the news ever. reality bores me."

Statements like these just tend to piss me off. Too much is going the wrong way in the world for people not to care. Or maybe I am just an old fashioned humanist. I guess it would be a lot easier to just shut it out and not care. And play some awesome games on the computer. Whoops, sorry 'bout the sarcasm.... I slipped...

thank u for the news. not that i care much iam afraid to say. i dont watch the news ever. reality bores me.

Well now, I'm from Denmark, and I knew about the Scooter Libby and the CIA agent case. I am just sad to see Cheney walk out on it...

Anyway Hex, you've got a dangerous attitude - u just don't care about policy, war, education, health, POVERTY in your own backyard, drugs, abuse, etc, do you?

You don't vote either I suppose? But you yourself don't really need anything, so the rest... whadda they matter?

You are aware, for instance, that people in Pakistan need your help NOW in order to survive the winter? Send them 20$ instead of buying the next DVD...

Probably not the place to argue 'bout this but attitudes like this must be why the Bushs and Cheneys of this world keep getting power - 'cause we don't really care. Hex! Get up, get out!  ;D

It's just an outline of the plot, nothing u don't know already...

Kind regards,

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Guitar anyone?
« on: November 10, 2005, 05:39:24 AM »
Yes, play guitar, been doing so for more than 15 years.

Still like to improvise with Morricone-like chords and sounds.

"I coulda been somebody... I coulda had class... I coulda been a contender..."

Gettin' too old to worry about "favourite bands"... finally I believe only in dynamite...

Go back a while on this board and you'll find all the theories, explanations, arguments, interpretations, and analysis you'll ever want, and then some, on the dream theory.

For a while back then I more or less decided that my attitude to this was to be: who cares?

Duck, You Sucker / Re: Villega's torture scene
« on: November 03, 2005, 07:12:20 AM »

The DVD also suggests that it is really John who has betrayed his old time friend (Sean) back in Ireland - partly because he is the one taking over the girl in the final flashback - therefore John is guilt ridden and melancholic - he was the one with blood on his hands - and he will not judge Villega for making the same mistake as he himself did.

That's why the final flashback in its full lenght and the passing of the girl is so important.

That's an ongoing discussion elsewehere, sorry 'bout that... :-\

Just watched it yesterday (s.e.) I bought it for the equivalent of 7$ in a supermarket that ran a campaign, a long side the new SE of FFDM. No digipack, though.

Yes there is extensive info on the torture scene - a heavy use of shadows in this scene makes you think of the chinese play in OUATIA. I could live without the scene - and I am having problems seeing the meaning of another desert scene. As is explained on the DVD, one of Juan's boys pisses in some pond John finally finds to drink from. This cruelty would seem kind of out of place after the bonding and initial "understanding" between the two men.

The cutting of these scenes are more of an archeological loss than a dramatic loss, if u know what I mean. We know that Villega has been tortured and broken down when we see him in the car.

General Discussion / Re: Books on Sergio Leone?
« on: November 03, 2005, 03:44:24 AM »
"Something" is a biography of Leone, his personal history -
"Once/Italy" is more of a coffee-table book with sections on the westerns solely (not OUATIA)  - and raw interviews with Leone himself, actors, screenwriters etc. AND SOME AMAZING PHOTOS, POSTERS etc - that's the best part imo, the rest we've heard before.

So, you'll want both of them.

I got a hardcover version of ONCE/ITALY - really amazing looking - try www.play.com - for free delivery.

Cheers

General Discussion / Re: Real ghost towns & quasi ghost towns
« on: November 01, 2005, 06:38:55 AM »
Gotta bring the attention to a reaaaally impressive ghost town in Turkey. In the beginning of last century there was a Turkish-Greek "exchange" of minorities (simply and very reductionistic put), and so a whole town of greek minority was deserted - somewhere near the Turkish South Coast -  don't remember where exactly.

Myself and two friends spent the the night in the deserted church, with 200 candles, a guitar, booze and a little weed. It was a hot, clear night and the stars were just so damn clear.

The next morning we were awaken way too early by a couple of tourist coaches jammed with elderly Americans - looking like they came fresh off some Mediterranean cruise ship - I don't think they approved of us being there, looking like zombies with empty bottles all over the place.

It was a night to remember in a Turkish ghost town.
