For a Few Dollars More / Re: New 4K Restoration Blu-Ray (March 2019)

Thank you very much. Glad to help get the word out about the right cuts whatever way I can.

I just ordered from Amazon.ca, it was a third party seller who said he had 2 copies...it wasn't due to arrive for a couple weeks but it just showed up :) looks like it's being sold from a different third party seller now.

And?
Do we get any definitive information about the Italian release version? And about the origins of that 178 min version, if it is not the release version?

I'll definitely let you know, still digging in. There are some new stills from the deleted scenes which is nice to see.

Got the book today. Pretty much everything we could have hoped for - a real treasure for those who love the film. Can't wait to dig in properly. It's huge and filled with pics and interviews.

There's a still in the new Frayling book of the sherrif making Harmonica try on one of the dusters and it doesn't fit (deleted scene).

I remember something similar, one of the writers making fun of the beating scene. I think it was Luciano Vincenzoni.

Maybe check the FAFDM chapter in STDWD

Boom, you nailed it. I found it in there and it is indeed by LV. Thanks!

Also wondering if someone here can help me. I distinctly remember reading a quote by someone who worked with Leone, but I can't find the source.

The quote concerned the beating scene in FAFDM and it was something along the lines of "I begged Sergio to cut down the scene, all those laughing faces just went on and on".

Ring any bells for anyone else?

Another comparison video posted here with some explanation. If you read earlier in the htf thread, Kino said they didn't include the dialog because it was a" deleted scene".

You are saying this cut is identical to, but the image quality is better than, the MGM BRD?

Yep, pretty much. New Alex cox segment is good and always enjoy Mike Siegel's picture galleries (which full disclosure had a very small part of with another user here, Le Bon.)

New Blu looks fantastic. Still cut by about a minute, a shame since it's the best the film has looked and the extras are great.

Hopefully someday we'll get this master in Leone's actual released cut.

Working on a part 2 that looks at the many different cuts of the beating scene...it's very complicated! Ideally I can get it out before the release date so that people can see what the "correct" version is. Even the Italian Blu is missing a few seconds in the beating scene...

The last time the beating scene was released completely uncut in North America was in 1982, the U.S. laserdisc. I wonder what happened to THAT print... 15 years later they were combining cut U.S. prints with incomplete Italian prints and making all sorts of mistakes. They had an uncut English print in their possession back in 1982...where did it go?

I'm sorry but this seems a bit obsessive.

You mean we should be focusing on the real issues. GBU issues ;)

Here is a link to my first draft of an in-depth analysis of all the home video releases of the film. (8 min) Just looking at one scene, (Manco's entrance) we can see how the edit and sound have been tampered with repeatedly. I look forward to seeing/hearing if Kino has finally restored the film to Leone's intentions.
