I took it as a happy ending, that Noodles is happy now and I think the fact Leone showed a shot of the younger Noodles smiling is irrelevant.

I think you can only really appreciate this film fully if you understand it within the political context that it was made in. I am hesitant to call it a masterpiece because I feel I am biased towards Leone films but deep down I really think it is that good.

I think that Leone used the garbage truck to show that he thought that everything Max said was a load of "GARBAGE!". It's this kind of subtlety that makes Leone the genius he is.

this is a tricky one. I personally don't believe it is a dream. I also think 2001 A space Oddysey is the best film of all time.
