Because stanton can't be bothered to let us know:
https://bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-us-importe/177861-once_upon_a_time_in_the_west_4k_theatrical_and_restored_version_4k_uhd_bluray_us_import_ohne_dt_ton

That indicates the disc is a US import. So I guess we'll see an announcement soon telling us its coming out here May 31st.

This is good for people who are suitably equipped. It doesn't help me unless the accompanying blu-ray is some kind of upgrade (very doubtful).

How should he know? It is not a German disc.

And in the end it will be again just the usual Paramount version ...

But it's better to have the film looking as good as possible, even in an adulterated form, nicht wahr?

Anyway, the news serves to indicate that OUATITW has enough cred to get a UHD release. Maybe some other Leone films will be along in the new format.

I stay with my 2005 DVD unless the risingfree theatrical version (aka as the oneandonly) will be released, or I have a TV so big that this DVD does not look anymore as good as it still does. By that I saved so far so much money that I don't have to work anymore ...

When I first saw this - in theater in 1969 - it did NOT include Harmonica rising up, buttoning his jacket, etc.

This is meanwhile a 99%-sure fact, that this scene was not included in any version released in 1969. Not in the uncut theatrical version, not in the first shorter version. It was added to a 2nd short version in Nov 70, one and a half year after the US release date.
Unfortunately when Paramount created a new master in the 80s they put this scene in, most likely for the dumb reason that this scene existed. And we have to live with this version since, unless we can watch here in Germany a 35 mm print.
... sigh ...

I just want a version. with the proper music for the finale I.e. one that doesn't cut in " Cheyenne' s Theme" prematurely!

They put the scene in because they deleted the scene at the trading post; so they needed to somehow show Harmonica survived the shootout. As usual, one bad decision (deleting trading post) begets another (adding Rising).

It?s all explained in this essential article http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=10564.msg149153#msg149153

I used to have a copy of that issue of video watchdog but it disappeared in a box of books traveling between Brazil and the US when I was relocating once.

With the trading post scene intact, the rising scene definitely should not be in the film. Even without, the ?avenging Angel? theme still works, I suppose.
