is he (close to) as good in the other movies as he was in Leone's movies?

IMO Indio is the greatest villain in Western history. The other Leone villains are not far behind; but Indio is clearly #1. There are so many amazing things about Leone's movies, that certain aspects often get overlooked. And one of those amazing aspects that I find amazing-but-not-given-enough-credit are how great the antagonists are: It is extremely rare that a viewer will enjoy watching the villains at least as much as he/she enjoys watching the protagonist. All too often, AW's just took the most annoying pain in the ass they could find and made him a villain; they're successful in the sense that you despise him cuz he is so annoying, but you kind of groan every time he appears on screen cuz he is a pain in the ass to watch. The hard thing is having a guy who is utterly despicable and whom you hate passionately, but who is enjoyable to watch. There are some -- Charles McGraw in Saddle the Wind and Jack Palance in Shane come to mind -- but they are very few and far between.
It is simply amazing how in all of Leone's Westerns, the scenes involving the villains are just as enjoyable as those involving the protagonists. I just wonder how much of it was Leone's direction and how much was Volonte; and therefore  if Volonte was anywhere near as good in non-Leone films as he was in FOD and FAFDM. (eg. Lee Van Cleef - in the limited roles in AW's that he had before FAFDM -- wasn't nearly as good as he was in Leone and post-Leone films... eg. in Ride Lonesome he speaks way to quickly. He is so much better when he speaks and walks and acts slowly. Hey, I just thought of this: maybe his terrible auto accident contributed cuz it forced him to walk slower and therefore be more menacing! [Though that wouldn't have to do with his talking more slowly])

I think he's great in A Bullet For The General, only problem in the versions I've seen he's dubbed by a different voice actor, there is supposed to be another cut that has the familiar Bud Grant voice (that we expect)  but I've never tracked it down, it would be nice to find out if the Film Forum has that particular version.

I can't remember who dubs Face To Face.

if anyone wants to see one of these Spags and is interested in making a long Leone day of it, we can meet in the morning or early afternoon and visit some of the New York City filming locations of OUATIA, then have some McSorley's brews, befor heading to the Film Forum for an evening Spag  O0

Hmm, I was assuming these were gonna be shown in Italian. I guess we don't know. D&D, you could call the theater and find out (except you won't be able to find anyone there who knows).

It's another case of Pay Your Money And Take Your Chances.

The new Blue Underground BD has both cuts (international and US versions) with apparently the different english dubs for each one. The old German DVD had both English dubs as well but on the same cut (the longer one I think)

I now see that they're advertising The Big Gundown as the U.S. Premier of the Complete Italian Version. So, I guess that one will be in Italian, but maybe not the others.

Everybody see that Tony Musante is supposed to be on hand for The Mercenary tomorrow night?

And they've added Corbucci's Minnesota Clay for Tuesday.

And you can get Alex Cox to autograph his book on Thursday.

Thanks - irony is I was actually in NYC just last week so I really am just missing out on seeing this.

Be interesting to hear his thoughts.

I assume that's the one he released a couple of years back - "10,000 Ways to Die"?

I'd love to ask Cox if he still thinks the Frank-Jill sex scene in OUATITW is out of order  ;D ;D ;D

I never thought about what language the movies would be in; I assume that if there is an English dub, that would be the one shown, but I have no idea. Either way, I don't care enough to call the theater to find out; I'll go see the movies anyway if any of you wanna go.

it would be nice to hear Musante -- I really liked The Mercenary. As insanely outrageous as many Sapgs are, this one is even more outrageously outrageous  ;)
btw, the English dialogue of Giovanna Ralli (the female lead in The Mercenary) was definitely dubbed by the same woman who dubbed Claudia Cardinale's English dialogue OUATITW. (I really don't like Jill's English dub in OUATITA. Maybe it's just cuz I know what Cardinale really sounds like, which is nothing like the English dub; her voice is much deeper. In fact, according to the second paragraph here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_Cardinale#Career she wasn't allowed to dub her own voice even in her early Italian movies, cuz her voice was too deep and hoarse, and cuz her Italian had a French accent).

I now see that they're advertising The Big Gundown as the U.S. Premier of the Complete Italian Version. So, I guess that one will be in Italian, but maybe not the others.
Now, after carefully looking over the Film Forum's calendar, I see that the notation "DCP" has been attached to the entry for this film. Any idea what this means? Digital Camera Projection?

I notice some titles have the notation "HD." Here's a list:

The Grand Duel
Hellbenders
A Bullet For the General
Django Kill . . . If You Live, Shoot
Tepepa

Blue Underground has just released/ is about to release these titles on Blu-ray, so it looks suspiciously like Film Forum, for 12.50 a head, is offering to project what are essentially Blu-ray images onto a larger screen. Gee, thanks.

That's not the worst offer they're making, though. If you want to see "Kill And Pray" they'll project that for you from a Betacam source.

It looks like the only safe titles are "The Mercenary" (advertised as a new 35mm print) and OUATITW (which D&D has already pointed out is the recent Film Foundation print).

1) No, I don't go to movies on my own.

2) Since Scorcese's Film Foundation is collaborating on the Film Forum's screening of OUATITW, I just guessed that the version they show may be Scorcese's version. I have no firm knowledge one way or the other.
