Digital Cinema Package, the new standard in digital cinema. In other words, most likely a 2K projection.
Yet when I go to the cineplex, they usually advertise 4K projection.I assume that 2K is roughly twice the pixels as 1080?
ok I definitely want to go to an evening showing today (Thursday June 7
6/13 The Big Gundown
The sound was through the standard art-house tinny-sounding speakers (D&D, you would have hated it).
I went and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The DCP projection looked really good, with a crisp image and vibrant colors. Flesh tones were correct. The only thing--apparently the Italians like to DNR their digital images to death, because there was no grain in the image whatsoever (although, I was sitting quite far in the back, so maybe there was some and I just couldn't see it). From where I was sitting, though, good image that it was, it did not seem film-like. This didn't bother me, however; nor did it seem to bother my fellow audience members. Man, was the theater packed! (and for a 4:40 p.m. showing--don't people have jobs anymore?).The sound was through the standard art-house tinny-sounding speakers (D&D, you would have hated it). The subtitles were easy to read--they looked like the kinds of titles you get on Blu-rays. I'm guessing there's a really good Italian BD release of this already out or soon to be on its way.Bottom line: this was the most fun I've ever had watching this title.
6/17 The Price of Power Once Upon a Time in the West The Ruthless Four
Hoberman is an ass. That Leone guy made some pretty good films. Those other guys, not so much.
