Hi, I was just watching FAFDM again and I'm wondering what your thought are about the first scene where the guy on the horse is being shot down.
What does it refer to do you think?

I think it just sets the scene - "here is a bounty hunter at work". The casul whistling, the obvious planning that has gone into the killing, the spot-on long distance shot, it tells us what kind of people we are going to be seeing in this movie. It really goes with the opening quote about bounty hunters, but doesn't actually tie in literally with the plot as such, although we can assume the bounty hunter is meant to be either Mortimer or Manco.
And of course any Leone fan worth their salt knows who was doing the whistling...
It's class.

agreed, I also think that it was just to show us that during that period the bounty killers were coming up,
so no hidden message linked with this one i guess

ive got an old vhs version from warner home video the whole oppening credits are out of sync with the film so the titles get shot b4 we here the gunshot, as does the opening scene, we hear cocking see smoke he falls from horse then gunfire is heard dodgy or what it goes back in sync by the train scene but at least its not been cut like the newer editions.
So many of us have had a session in there.
