Please clarify the criteria in posting on this ´Other Films´ forum

Its basically come to mean all other Westerns, since Leone is primarily known for his Westerns all other Westerns are "related" in that sense.

Why not amend the listing to state: "Discuss all other Leone related films here (i.e. Westerns)"? Although why gangster films are excluded remains a mystery . . .

Instead of "Other Films," how about just change it to "Other Westerns" and that's it.


I think that initially, that "Other Films" board was meant for films Leone had something to do with besides the 7 he directed that have their own boards. Like My Name is Nobody, Sodom and Gemorrah, Last Days of Pompei, etc. But somehow, it evolved to mean all Westerns. Of course, it's confusing for new members.

So I think it would be simplest if "Other Films" was just changed to "Other Westerns," (and remove any reference to that board having any relation to Leone).

[Alternatively, you could move all those other Westerns to the "Off Topic Discussion" board, and have the "Other Films" board really only include other Leone films. But really, who the hell is gonna spend time discussing Last Days of Pompei? And, do you really wanna spend the time moving every Western to the Off-Topic Discussion board?]

So, just changing "Other Films" to "Other Westerns" solves all the problems easily, IMO. Of course, I don't give a darn either way; no matter what you do, I ain't the one gonna be doing all the work

Anyway this is something that Cal has to do - the moderators can't modify the board like that. So it's gonna take some time, maybe a week or two.

is there anyone else here that can do administrative stuff? I mean, what happens if God Forbid cal drops dead tomorrow? The board dies along with him? Forgive me if it ain't my place to say this, but I think every board needs to have at least 2 people with full administrative powers. Even the secret recipe of Coca-Cola is known to two people at the company, who can never travel in the same vehicle....

once it was decided that only Leone-credit-as-director films have their own boards, that's that; MNIN was not officially directed by Leone. If MNIN gets its own board, why shouldn't A Genius, Two Partners, and A Dupe? That was also produced by Leone, just as MNIN was.
And ccording to Frayling, one of the sword & sandal films that Leone was ass't director on (maybe Last days of Pompei?), Leone actually directed in full, after the director got sick after one day of shooting. So maybe that movie should also have its own board?
(Personally, I think that even The Colossus of Rhodes doesn't need its own board; nobody ever discusses it, it's just a waste of space.) But bottom line it was decided that only Leone-credited-as-director movies should have their own boards, and I don't think that's a bad bright-line rule.

However, I do think that the "Other Films" board should indeed be amended to clearly read "Other Westerns," so that it's not confusing for new members.

A Genius is never considered as a Leone film, it is just one he produced.
But yes, The Last Days of Pompeii should also have its own board. This is definitely a Leone directed film.

Actually that would be a really great thread. It could include anything from "A Nun's Story" and "Bicycle Thieves" through to "Last Days of Pompeii" and "My Name is Nobody".
