I turned it on at the minute that Clint is caught coming back in through the window and just before the beating scene.
The watching experience was far better than my dvd. Why is that? Is it because the quality is inferior and it is more reminiscent of my old vhs's?
Anyway one thing is for sure - when clint rolls the barrell down the sloped gangplank, crushing mario brega and his buddy i noticed that the camera shows a frame of their dead bodies. I'm certain that i have never seen that before. Is this some sort of old print? The picture is far lighter too.
I'm not just imagining this dudes......!
I'm taken a back by this, for the first time in a long time that whole scene was terrifying.

Edit, different angles on the baxter massacre too
Edit again, their were a few more frames of the baxter woman dying

yeah, interesting to hear this, thanks for sharing; if you have any video of it, or can find the clips on YouTube or whatever and post 'em, that would be awesome  O0

Ok, first thing to say is that I found a version of the film on YouTube and I was wrong about the extra frame or two of the Baxter lady dying - that was my error.
This same version however did not have the frame of the dead bodies of Mario Brega and his buddy complete with tomato ketchup blood!
Instead, like my DVD it simply shows the barrel exploding (with Brega's blood curdling yell) and then Clint's satisfied face.
With regards to the alternate camera angles, the one that sticks out in memory is seeing Ramon aiming his rifle at the camera and firing (as if you the viewer is being fired at).

I don't mean to imply that the whole scene was really different - I was just a bit excited on Saturday night whilst watching it!

It was 5HD which is the High Definition version of channel 5 over here in the UK.

The main thing that gets me is the frame of the dead bodies and why I haven't seen this before?

I remember when ITV acquired the rights in the 90's after the BBC having them for 10-12 years, there was more bloodshed, such as the scene when Clint shoots at the man up at the window after the final showdown. This was because they had prints that included the cuts made by the British film censors. I haven't checked but would have thought DVD's would have these scenes but you say your DVD doesn't have the shot of Brega and gang members bodies so that doesn't seem to be the case. I'll have to have a look at my different DVD versions.

Interesting Le Bon, I'll look forward to what you find.
Years before we had DVD I too remember seeing more blood shed on different TV versions. Thing is, you never expected it and all of a sudden you would see something that you hadn't seen before - I always notice, even just a frame or two.

Going back to the version that I watched on Saturday, I wouldn't like to say that it was a pan and scan job but the picture was certainly closer to the action and it was not widescreen of any type. It felt more involved but maybe I'm just talking bo11ock5 now - plus I did have a few beers on Saturday night  8)

Edit; do you mean when Silvanito shoots up at Esteban? I remember that too
