Holy crap! He was in the audience with me a couple years ago when I saw a revival of Our Town off-Broadway. I loved him in The Master, but the film he starred in and directed, Jack Goes Boating, is something of his I especially like. 46 is way too early to check out.

What a terrible shock to hear. Reqally good actor. I remember him from BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD, RED DRAGON, THE MASTER, as a youngster in SCENT OF A WOMAN, and probably much more. RIP

I honestly never knew he had drug problems, this is terrible news. He was one of the best screen actors (and probably stage actors, just don't have the knowledge or interest) in the world, and his best work probably was ahead of him. He also seemed to be viewed as a humble, kind hearted person and has children, which makes this even worse. I feel horrible for his loved ones.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre..

He'd been clean for decades and just relapsed a year or two ago. Really sad.

Reports are that he and his long-time gal had just broken up a few days ago.  Probably had something to do with his relapse. Only guessing.
