I finished watching a 2-dvd set of old TV western shows courteously furnished by an eminent member of the board a few years ago. I won't discuss the shows themselves but just point out the discovery, at least for me, of the use of modern and electrified jazz music in a couple of series, namely "Shotgun Slade" and "The Deputy". Here's an example:

(see  minute 4'20").

Now I'm pretty sure Shotgun was never aired over here, but I vaguely remember the credits fixed image of The Deputy. Of course, I don't even know whether there was a tv set in Morricone's home to assume he can have caught a snippet of the show and have the idea of a score in contrast with the time and place of the action. But I can' rule it out. And apart from the awkard use of modern jazz in the two american shows, I don't remember  similar use in feature movies of the era (ore even after).
